2006 MazdaSpeed6
Ok, so right now I am extremely fed up with my 06 speed6. I have a smoking turbo and my clutch is totally fried at 21k miles - i bought the car with 17600 and have not launched it at all. I am 15 days over the lemon law in MA and so the dealer I bought it from has no fault in the matter at this point.. How could mazda build a car called SPEED that has such a crappy clutch in it? I have read numerous things about people burning them out below 20k miles on here! Mazda claims no fault for this? Sounds unbelievable. I have had numerous MT cars and have driven well over 140k miles and have never burnt out a clutch... The previous owner probably launched it, and I am just screwed because of that.

The dealer quoted 2700 to fix the clutch/flywheel...obviously I am not going to do this. This car is driving me insane.

Anyone have any input on the ACT race clutch? thinking about the race 6 puck sprung.. How well do these hold up and how comfortable are they on the street? would you recommend 6 puck or 4 puck?

Thanks
-Dennis

Dennis,

I highly recommend that you take your car, clutch TSB in hand, and head to another dealer. On the same token, print out the info on the smoking turbo (stickied in the FI section) and bring that with you as well.

I think you'll have luck at another dealer. Go into the local section of the boards and ask around for dealers that are more willing to work with you, and hopefully this can get resolved.

Your car should still have a factory warranty. You might be able to also use that as ammunition toward a dealer. The money won't come out of their pocket whether it be for a TSB or a warranty. It comes from Mazda.

Mazda owes you a clutch. Bottom line. Don't drop it until you get what's yours.

Yes, the 06 carried a 50k bumper-to-bumper warranty.

but I thought clutch was considered a "wear" item and not covered by warranty????

True enough, but the 2006 Speed6 clutch pedal mechanism had a few quirks that made it difficult to operate smoothly, so the TSB repair by replacing the entire actuation mechanism was published. The clutch itself (pressure plate and disc) is/was fine. Those folks with a favorable dealer who complained soon enough got a free clutch replacement with the TSB work as well. Otherwise you're pretty much out of luck...

I don't care if you have some trick triple plate clutch in there... you'll fry any clutch if you drive like a dumbass... sadly whoever fucktard that owned this car before you did abuse the s*** out of the car

this car doesn't even have a real mazdaspeed clutch... it's just another ******* stock clutch designed for the STOCK power of the car just like any other mazdaspeed car out there... real mazdaspeed parts you HAVE to buy yourself

good luck with the TSB because the dealer WILL get back charged if they try to do a fried clutch and mazda calls for it to be sent in and they find out its a bad clutch! the TSB only talks about working clutches

TSB's are done free of charge, they are not recall's just a technical service bulletin, it also depends if your vin # fall in that specific batch. Not all car's will be in the batch. The previous owner burnt the crap out of the clutch, my friend has 55k on his 06 MS 6 and is still on the oem clutch. The turbo you probably can get repaired under factory warranty. One thing did you buy the car at a Mazda dealership? If you didn't then as previously suggested take the car to a Mazda dealership. Good luck with your car man.

I am basically just a sitting duck with the turbo right now... need to wait til it smokes and then drive it to the dealer while smoking to show them... hopefully it happens during dealer hours.. It is great to know that your engine is shaky at best right now and the clutch is gone at 21k...

Just in case the dealer wont honor the TSB and associate that with the clutch burning, anyone have any luck with the ACT race clutches?

i lost my clutch at about 48000km. i put on 2000km... go ******* figure. under a week after the 30 day used car warrenty.

if you think the clutch grabbyness is bad now, wait till you get an ACT!
not that ACTs are bad, that's just the way they make them... I've seen plenty of fucktards driving subarus tear up their input shafts and gears after installing an ACT... and they were warned to go easy launching because of how grabby they are! you don't NEED any fancy 6 puck racing clutch... your car isn't a race car and it'll be a lot easier to break that tranny... if you think you have it bad now, wait till you break this tranny!

just get an exedy and be done with it... crossover sells them for a good price too

I just had the clutch TSB done under warranty a couple of months ago. However, they didn't put in a new flywheel, and I have no idea what condition it is, which sucks. I would have preferred to just put in a brand new one while they were in there.
I had to fight them just to do the clutch TSB even though my car was clearly a "Type A" according to the vin. Get this, the guy tried to make like he had never heard of it, and I had complained about the clutch months earlier and he said it was normal.

Best of luck man, I hope you get it. Mazda dealers are next to worthless IMO, and I wouldn't buy another one for that reason alone (unless a new MS6 comes out someday, and it rocks)

haha i went there way back after i bought my car from Derek. they voided my warrenty. (lol2)(rofl) because i had changed a major engine component on the car ( CP-E FMIC).. it was funny as hell.. havent been back since.. but yes ive heard they do really good warenty work there and they have one of the best Mazdaspeed Tech's in the USA there as well..

Sucks and hope you get things resolved fitbikes. Who knows how the guy before you treated the car. It doesn't matter what car you have, if you abuse the clutch it will go prematurely. Just visit an EVO or a STI thread lol. Tons of people complaining about clutches going within 10k miles.

As for your turbo seal situation. Could you video your car while smoking and take it to the dealer???

yeah im not kidding, i didnt care all that much at the time.. i was only 20.. but i do alot of the work to the car myself now anyways, and ive changed so much stuff now that it doesnt matter... but if anyone said they were going to buy a mazda or looking for a dealer to get work done at i highly recommend them based on what i expericenced... besides the warrenty part...

ya def. i hear ya..i only went there for oil changes anyhow but i got the spin on conversion so i dont even bother goin to the dealer for anything anymore.

Could you video your car while smoking and take it to the dealer???

I've wondered if you could do that as well... though they'd probably say that you used high-end video editing software to "add the smoke" haha. Maybe worth a try though if it smokes a lot. Mine has only smoked 3 times in the past year.

video isn't enough.. ii actually did tape it with my phone, but the guy said he could only do it if they can make it happen while the car is there.. he was super cool and apologetic about it, but said that mazda won't warranty anything unless the dealer sees it in person...
