Mazdaspeed camshaft?

This is for anyone with the camshafts or anyone who knows. I got my exhaust camshaft in today. I noticed on it it says fs9h and underneath that IN. Now i was wondering what the #s are on the camshafts to know which is which( the IN made me think it was the intake cam). I dont have the intake yet will probally order in a week or two. Any help appreciated want to make sure I got the rite cam and to eliminate the possibility af any accidental mixup.

The Mazdaspeed exhaust camshaft and the Jspec camshaft will both say "IN" on the cam. There the same camshafts, but one is slightly modified. I thought the same damn thing, one day I was looking at one and then the other, and they both said "IN". So i called a person that was installing them on his P5, and he said the same thing. But he found that there like that. So dont worry about it, I hope you enjoy the extra push they'll give! I do:D

Hey thanks alot I feel better now. Soon as I get the intake in about 2 weeks I have a feeling I am going to enjoy them alot from the response everyone has been giving.

hOW HARD OF AN INSTALL IS THIS OR HOW EXPENSIVE WOULD IT BE TO HAVE SOMEONE DO IT??? Sorry bout the caps forgot it was on. I have read and heard that just the exhaust cam by itself gives more gain than both the cams together. Is this true???? Can adjustable cam gears be used on our cars???Does anyboy make them??

I got my Intake cam yesturday and was wondering CitizenPro
if you or anyone knows the cams torque specs, I cant seem to find them. I think I have them but I am not sure.

just to reiterate something that i'm sure all of you already know: if you plan on doing any (and i mean ANY!) mods on your car, you should invest in a shop manual. and i would clarify 'any mods' by meaning anything from an intake to high comp pistons to a body kit.

I have not heard that before...but I have heard that you will gain maybe 10hp with both cams with miner mods.....and i think Tri-point makes the adjustable cam gears.

you should invest in a shop manual

Already have it couldnt find it for the camms

Thanks I will try that.

Well I called and they told me they wouldnt give it to me. I am sure if I went in I could get them but I am trying not to void my warranty rite now. Well I think I know what they are, but I want to be sure so if anyone has them it would be appreciated.

if you have the shop manual, look at the top of page 01-10B-15, and you will see an exploded diagram of the cams, cam bearing caps, head, gears, etc. right there, pointing to the cam bearing retainer bolts is a torque spec.

(and i am not posting it here, so you have to go look it up)

Well I think I know what they are(previous post)

You dont have to that is where I was looking but from the diagram I wasnt sure if it was. So I will post what I think it is 11.3-14.2N.M {115-145 kgf>cm, 100-125 in-lbf}, this is what I think it is just wanted to be sure. If someone confirms this , this can be a reference point for someone in the future looks like what I will be using.

Does putting in the both intake and exhaust cam shafts really increase HP out put? Is it worth it. Also i have heard that putting in these cam shatfs will decrease throttle response. is this true?
thanks

I feel the increased horsepower......its not a major increase but trust me who will feel it......I have an automatic and I can beat my friends 5 speed Pro5....Off-the-line he will get ahead of me but I catch up pretty quick.....now the decreased throttle response question will have to come from a person with a 5 speed cause my Pro5 has a slight pause when I put the pedal to the floor....but thats because i have an auto.

Well I was rite. Put in the cams I took my time since it was the first time, when finally said and done car wouldnt start and when I put foot on throttle I could hear pinging. Was aggrivated first of that I took so much time and it dindt work and that I csrewed up, but once I did a quick check realized it wasnt my fault and will fix later. Here we go after it didnt start I took fo the valve cover to check timing saw that both the intake and exhaust lobes were facing the same way with the dowel pins both up. So then I compared old cams and with both dowel pins up lobesd are in opposite directions(hence intake and exhasut cam) So I did in fact have two intake cams. I also took of camshaft bolts to make sure I put on the pulleys rite and it did in fact have reverse L on intake and L on exhaust. Their are letters on only one side of the cam sprockets rite.

So you got the FS-ZE exhaust cam and the Mazdaspeed intake cam? Or did they send two of the same thing?

Putting the cams in will not void your warranty, they are stock Mazda parts!
