I was planning is to get the reworked turbo from protegegarage, but the wait time is 2 to 3 weeks. I can't have my car out of commission for that long so i want to buy a used one get the work done on it do the swap and return my core. I realize they offer used turbos for 500 or new for 1000 but i was hopping to spend a little less by getting one from ebay so i have more money for other mods. unfortunaly all i can find is k04's for audi and vw until i stumbled on a mazdaspeed 6 turbo. they guy is claiming it's a k04 and will fit the cx-7 or mazdaspeed 3, but i've also heard differently. can anyone conform/deey this or does anyone have there k04 turbo they want to sell?? if selling please pm or email a price and i will consider it. thanks for any help

They all have the same engine...from what I understand the power difference between the MS3 and MS6 is due to a more restrictive intake. Not sure what causes the power deficiency in the CX-7

im not sure the technical terms but theres a rubber vaccuum line going from the inlet to the wastegate on the cx-7, like we have on ours, that is much more free flowing then ours, which lowers the boost....

i know this becuase at my work, we did a benchmarking job on the cx-7 and one of the techs broke off the stock nipple, so they custom fit a more restrictive nipple and we found the car hit 4-5 lbs more boost than it did...

For clairfication.....

the mazdaspeed3/speed6/cx-7 all use the same turbo

Not true...the MS3 and MS6 Turbos are Hitachi-Warner K04s and are essentially the same....(but they do have different model numbers)

The CX-7 is also a Hitachi-Warner K04 but it is a slightly smaller version.

In North America The inlet side (or cold side) and the wheel are slightly larger on the MS3/MS6 turbo vs the CX-7. This was done to give the CX-7 more low end and midrange (as well as fuel ecomony) In Europe the CX-7, MS3 and MS6 all share the same turbos.....

Not sure what they did but, the stock ecu in the CX-7 will not allow it to hit 4-5 more lbs without hitting a boost cut and the wastegates used on all three turbos is the same........so I would bet the nipple/restriction is the same... (I will measure them tonight for my own knowledge! )

Very bad picture is attached for reference....it is hard to tell the but the MS3/6 turbo on the right is slightly bigger!

Dropspeed beat me to it. CX7 ECU and turbo are not tuned for higher performance, but for pulling power.

Both turbos share different part numbers and exhaust housings. Know this becuase while swapping turbos per TSB for smoking turbo syndrome, stud snapped in hot side and had to find a replacement among the rest we pulled from other cars (Speed 3's/6's/ CX7's). Very minute differences.

As for a Speed Turbo, I have one from a speed 3 ide sell you that you can use as a core if you need it. PM me. I wont charge you 500. Also, have you checked out PT Performances SST or Super Stock Turbo? Thing is massive and well done. Ive heard alot of happy Speed owners with these.

EDIT: that picture is kind of leading, as the turbos are at different angles, making the CX7 turbo look smaller from the outside. This is not the case. The difference lies on the Compressor wheel and housing inlet.

So if you were to put the cx-7 northamerica turbo on a speed 3 there would be fitting problems? or power would be less even though the tuning in the speed3 due to smaller inlet barely?

reason im asking is i have a brand new cx-7 turbo from mazda that im trying to sell and if it doesnt fit on the speed 3 or 6's i dont want to give wrong information. thanks
