According to Ford's current plans, svt will be moving upscale in the future, leading to NO svt Focus... Not that there will be ANY svt vehicle for the next couple years (new Cobra and Lightning for 06)

Not to mention, by the time the MS3 comes out, and it will come out, there will be a new EVO and who knows what Subaru will have cooked up by then.

Suby has a 2.0L version of the STi slated to hit soon.
Also your are very right that a 200 hp MS3 isn't going to compete with an evo or sti as each of those cars make about 230 whp. The ms3 will at best, with a 200 hpo powerplant, only make 170 whp

yeah the current Japanese STI is a 2.0 (WRC standards), ours is the 2.5. I'm not sure about the Euro version.

The evo is the same engine as Japan I believe, but either way it is a 2.0L here.

I am well aware of the 2.5L in the STi :D
 
the MS3 is going to need more then 200hp to competitve. Lets not forget the SRT4 has now raised the bar. I want at least 220 at the crank, forged internals if need ( not sure with this engine ) a nice stereo again ( more reliable this time and a REAL sub )

I dont care for AWD as I figure it'll raise the price beyond reasonable. FWD with a good LSD is all I need.
And it better go WHOOOSH!!!! PSST this time!
