Mazdaspeed 3 vs. Porsche Boxster S

Great video of Porsche Boxster S chasing a Mazdaspeed 3. The video is almost 10 minutes long so make sure you plan on sitting for a bit.

"This video is from Nord Stern's Last Fling DE at Brainerd International Raceway the weekend of Sept. 29 & 30, 2007.

Video was taken from a stock 2000 Porsche Boxster S on Bridgestone RE-01 street tires.

The 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 has upgraded suspension, intake, and exhaust. It's also running on street tires."

I raced a boxter at the track.......and it killed me.
Talked to the owner and find out it had a 911 carrera turbo engine swap. (eek2)

If you look at the other videos of that user there's another one (the next lower in the list) where he's chasing an MS3 in the rain. He loses traction a few times. It would be a lot harder to tell, but I didn't see the MS3 loose control at all...

Great find ragindark!

Thanks for the kind words and here is the link for other people to see the Mazdaspeed 3 in the rain being followed by the Porsche Boxster S.

i enjoy the end where the boxster driver got so happy that he's passing the speed3, only realize that the speed3 driver "let" him pass, and pass him again. I wonder if he has a video where he ACTUALLY beat the speed3

Boxter Driver: Not obvious but [1] the track was still a little damp from rain throughout the day. [2] Main straight is also used by NHRA drags and INCREDIBLY slippery when wet. I didn't fully track-out there for this reason. Also, [3] strong winds in T1 (end main straight) and T2 were a bit unsettling and kept speeds down some.

My lap times are ~3 sec. quicker than the MS3. On dry, I don't think it pulls as hard in the straights but I can't run on it either. Make no mistake, the MS3 is a very impressive car.

Excuses, excuses. Is he saying FWD traction advantage on a damp track is the only reason his butt was getting kicked in the straights? So, basically, he's claiming he stayed ahead of the 3 in the straights on a dry track but on a damp track his rear wheels were slipping enough for him to get left way behind. I'm just a little skeptical. No way to know without a camera pointing out the back when they were on the dry track or the 3's driver posting a vid showing the Boxter out in front of him.

As far as that last bit it looks the MS3 driver was just saying hi once the competition was over on the way to the pits.

Seemed to me the MS3 driver was a bit inconsistant, he braked late and went wide on several turns. If not for this and traffic I don't think the S would have seen him.

Nice vid! The boxter was definitely outbraking the ms3, that's where he was making up most of his time (too bad the ms3 would simply walk away in the straights). If the track was damp then I would be way more hesitant in a mid-engined car than an ff car, nobody enjoys spinning off the track, even in gran-tourismo...
