Mazdaspeed 3 Corksport Downpipe

price looks extra nice on the corksport dp. Over $100 off the CP-E DP even without a cat. The DP doesn't have a muffler or anything in it so why would it change the exhaust note?

Sound = Boo!
Performance = Yay!

I bet this dp paired with the test pipe would make one mean setup!! If you don't mind running catless :) The enviroment is ****** anyway give me more power!

I got my mount and my cai from protege garage and I would be happy to give ya'll more business! Looking forward to a test pipe so I don't have to get one from skeet unit.

Its just like putting headers on a Mustang, your not getting rid of a muffler or resonator but you still get a nice grumble from it. Just better faster exhaust flow and better spooling from the turbo I guess is what makes it louder for us....

Im looking to buy a new exhaust today and if not today by the end of the week and have some questions.
Is this downpipe a direct replacement for the stock dp? I mean, can I replace just the downpipe and not worry about anything else, or do I have to get the full corksport exhaust.
Also, you said that it comes with a way to stop the check engine code, what are they doing to stop it? Some sort of O2 sensor eliminator? Will it be something that I could do myself without worrying about having to solder stuff or get a professional to install?
Another question I have is when do you expect to have the test pipe in stock and how much will it cost.
I want to get a full exhaust replacement and right now it sounds like the only one that replaces everything is CPE, I hope that isn't the case.

ps. i could get you that sound clip for the same sort of deal ;)

it is a direct replacement. you do not need any other exhaust parts. it has an o2 sensor extender which draws the emissions sensor from the stream somewhat to retain a voltage parameter that tells the computer your cat is working. it can be installed with patience, hand tools and time by someone with good mechanical skills. we'll have test pipes next week according to my factory. at that point we'll have options for full replacement systems.

How many pieces is the stock exhaust put together from? I'm trying to visualize so if anyone has pics of everything taken out it would help. You can take the stock DP out and replace it while keeping one stock cat installed?

Is running illegal exhaust on the street something that is pretty common? It is really tough to get caught I'm sure and I would save the stock DP for emissions testing in a couple years.

Ive been running illegal exhausts since 1988...

I think the stock system is in 3 pieces. Downpipe... second converter section and than the catback.

Ken, i spoke to Arik this morning. After him telling me what a pain in the ass it was removing the MS6 downpipe, ill wait until i do my turbo upgrade, which will happen after we get some new ECU stuff down the road.

Im interested in the test pipe however.

Very nice! Right now I could go for a test pipe and maybe wait on the DP.

The Skeet Unit test pipe looks like 2 pieces welded together at the bend, is that the way your test pipe is being manufactured or is it 1 pipe with a bend put in it?

one pipe with a bend put into it. after hearing about how pipes designed like that break or the turbo xs pipe breaks, we made an effort to improve upon with thicker steel and better flanges.

could a decent amount of gain come with just the test pipe being installed... i mean like 10-20 something like that? or is it just way too early to tell?

I would expect the gains to be pretty noticable from just 1 cat being removed. Both out would be banging :)

Good to hear it is all 1 piece and not 2 welded together. The one on skeet unit looked cheap by the photo and I was hoping ya'll would come out with something better and you are (rockon)

Do you know of any sound clips of someone just having the Dp installed, stock catback. I talked to Derrick at CS and he said it was a bit louder than stock, a big a bit lol. They had a car in I could have heard it on but I dont live in the same state so that didnt work out. I wanted to hear a clip of it by itself though, the stock exhaust is good enough for me for now but I think the dp would be a worth while upgrade, I just dont want it to be super loud....

Darn, I just got back from Ohio this past weekend. If I'd of known, I could of met ya and let ya hear mine. I have the stock exhaust and 2nd cat. But upgraded to the CS downpipe. It wasn't too much louder after the install. I actually didn't notice any sound difference at all. But I think I'm starting to hear alittle louder... uhh.. droning. And "getting on it" sounds alittle different too.

Anyways, if you decide to do the install yourself... set aside the WHOLE day. I did mine after work and well... I didn't get to bed til like 5am. Had to be at work at 8am... hehe. Problem mainly the tight bolts and figuring out certain things. But I could cut the time in half now if I had to do it again. I did a review on the "other" mazda forums. I have almost 2000 miles on this DP and no CEL's yet. I also have other mods too. So far so good.

placed my order early this morning can't wait to see it :)

the exhaust systems are backordered a week or so from corksport but the downpipes will be shipping out. let me know if you want me to not ship you the dp.

Mine will ship tomorrow. Should be fun.

thanks for the chat. looking forward to working more with you.

if the exhaust is backordered just go ahead and hold off on shipping the downpipe till you can ship both. it'll keep the wife off my back if she only see's one order being shipped to the house ;)

HAHA smooth!

Whenever I think of Protege Garage I always get a nice warm feeling :)

Any reason you all don't carry CP-E turbo-back for the MS3 (other than the fact is is ALWAYS on backorder)?

you'd have to ask CP-E :) the olive branch was extended long ago by us and according to thier owner its been on thier "to do" list to establish a relationship with us. the ball is in thier court.
