I'm new to this so if this is already answered let me know:

What are the problems or disadvantages with the Cobb SRI?(besides availability of the part)

Also if the Cobb SRI and the Injen CAI offer the correct MAF piping size do you need the air straighteners for either of these?

This one is dumb but I'll ask, do you need any splash shield with the Cobb SRI or the Injen CAI (since it is pointed up)? I wouldn't think so but never hurts to ask.

I'd be interested in this too. I have the MSCAI with the straightener and it does feel better but I'd like to know if it changes the AFR at all.

i thought i read somewhere that our cars run damn rich and with a CAI or SRI. it helps correct it by not lettingthe car runs so rich

I have the Mazdaspeed CAI on my car ('08), haven't had any issues at all with it.

A buddy of mine installed an Injen on his '08 a couple of weeks ago and picked up 6 mph in the quarter with it, matching almost exactly what my car ran with the Mazdaspeed CAI.

I'm assuming this is the 'new' CAI from mazdaspeed. I've never seen this one on their site before and it's now 'mazdaspeed3' specific. I also got a call from the dealer last week notifying me of the new part.

I guess the only difference is that the new one has the air straightener and the old one doesn't.

I think think whole air straightener thing is overrated. Yeah it sound cool, but its just like wind blowing through a metal fence lol. Ive had the Mazdaspeed CAI, Made my own custom intake, and I currently have the Corksport ram-air. All of which NEVER had any kind of air straightener. I have never had a CEL on my car. My A/F have always been between 12.2 and 10.5 on WOT. IDK maybe im just rambling for no reason bu i dont understand why people have all these "issues" or "problems" with parts for these cars, are these cars really that sensitive? If so, it hasnt been to me.

thats odd. BTW, do you plan on cutting your injen in half? The air-straightener needs to be next to the MAF, it cannot be at the end of the pipe.

Just keep looking on the forums for used ones. Some go for as low as $130. Average is about $150-175. I was considering selling mine but I dont know.

I going to have to rough up my dealer... just emailed him the other day about this and he stated he didn't know about the MS CAI with AFS.(fight) Anyone know of a dealer in SoCal that has them?

I believe they've just begun trickling in. Call around a few dealers I'm sure one of them has an idea. Give them the part number because I'm sure a lot of them don't know anything about the AFS. All they know is the new part number.

Can't recommend Tustin Mazda - they tried selling me an air filter cleaning on my Mazdaspeed CAI, yet when I asked for the part number for the filter cleaning kit (you get two bottles with the kit), they had no idea what it was. Hell, their service writer tried telling me that the mazda CAI could cause check engine lights because it could pull so much air on acceleration that there would somehow be no air available for it to pull in immediately (because my MZR can apparently simulate the vacuum of outer space under heavy acceleration? WTF?).

I will do that. Anyway, probably won't purchase one until Christmas (a gift for the car and myself).
