so now that i have a CAI and headers ive been looking at the rest of the exhaust...

i really like the look of the mazdaspeed axleback and the prices ive seen for the stock MS catback... will these be worth it? will i see gains? what about the sound... will it have a good sound like an aftermarket exhaust?

thanks in advance for ur help.

I heard its pretty loud, you will definatly get some gains especially if you have a intake and headers. Should be arround 5hp

I am running a complete MSP exhaust on my LX 2.0 with a Genie header , I have noticable gains across the power band . By using the MSP exhaust from the header back you retain 2 cats therefore are legal ,The sound is quiet until you hammer on the throttle .

excellent... so it has the second o2 bung i need huh? thats good news. how much did u pay for urs? im cheap as hell... but i want one bad, ha. it will probably be like a month ro so anywho, jsut trying to get my act together

It won't make much of a difference on N/A cars imo. Well the axelback added a tiny rumble, thats pretty much it. The Resonator portion on the Protege I believe is the same as the one on the MSP, so no difference. The only part I'm iffy about is the Midpipe w/ 2 Cats. The regular sedan has only one cat so I don't really a point in replacing our midpipe with the MSP midpipe that has 2 cats... I always thought: the less cats, the less restrictive exhaust flow = more gains? Any one can vouch for this?

ive got a mazdaspeed exhaust if youre interested. inclues j pipe, midpipe, catback/muffler. pm me about it once you get the money lined up. and if you dont want the whole thing that thats fine id be willing to sell maybe just the muffler or whatever. id just be happy to make some money off my old parts.

Thsi si the underside of my car ,it shows the MSPcat set up ,

The factory MSP exhaust sounds great on my P5. i had the aftermarket one on for a while and it got too obnoxious for me and everyone else in my car.

i just have the axle-back and i had to cut some off the tip section to fit the P5. it will fir every protege sedan though with no modification.

get one, it sounds great and looks nice, too! you might get 1-2 WHP at best.

ok so heres wher eim at... since everything is the same besides axle back and midpipe... and i dont want to get more cats to restrict airflow... it would the best thing is just buying the axleback? or is the piping bigge ron the rest of it?

i basically etiher wanna get everythign minus mid pipe or just axleback... what do u guys think? am i gonna get my moneys worth if i buy the whole exhaust or would it be the same as just getting the axleback?

how much for the whole thing? i dont want the mid pipe.(i didnt se eit in the list btu just wanted to make sure)

and yeilding a response to the difference of the piping from lx-msp, how little are u willing to let go of the axleback/muffler portion for?

On a turbo car, the exhaust flow is very important. You would have bigger gains if you have an aftermarket setup on an MSP. If you want to stay N/A but want to have a bit more power. I would suggest getting a Catback System (Aftermarket Resonator and Muffler/Axelback), and get an aftermarket midpipe like Mental Addiction Motorsports. You can get a catless Midpipe but I hear its really loud. Or you can get a high flow Cat (less restrictive cat).

That is currently what I'm doing.

getting more of the MSP exhaust than the axleback isn't worth it at all. Aside from the dual cat midpipe and the axleback, it's the same as the rest of the Proteges.

It all depends on how loud you like things, but you could always go with the Racing Beat catback, and if it isn't loud enough, add a header, and if it still isn't loud enough add a midpipe. At that point you will have replaced every piece of your exhaust :)

i don't think you will notice a difference between any exhaust unless you dunp both cats and then it will be way too loud.....your best bet would be just to get the axle-back!

excellent... axle back it is!

K man... i already have the header =)

i want a new mid pipe but i dont wanna go catless and i dont wanna pay 200 for the MAM... any other options?

so finally i think we're getting somewhere....

i have headers=most gain from an exhaust system.

MSP cat backs dont add much themselves... save the money and just get the axleback or get an aftermarket catback (big money)

mid pipe with highflow cat will show gain as well... catless will show most.

the final important question.... will adding the mazdaspeed axleback be loud enough and sporty enough to keep my protege from getting pushed aside as an unmodded car umungst the ricey civics and integras around here? i have some good stuff done and ive got lowering springs on the way soon... but when i drove up to where all the imports meet up, my car was veiwed as stock soley because there was no aftermarket exhaust sound.... thus no one was interested.

the pro demands respect... and to get it... it looks like its gonna ahve to do some yelling first...

mazdaspeed axelback is an oem application for a protege... its designed to meet specifications and etc. So don't expect it to be loud. I didn't hear a difference at first, but there is a tiny tiny grumble. But with a header I'm not sure how it sounds.

it is much deeper and has a better sound over the stock exhaust. it is racing beat.

add a SRI or CAI to your engine (ebay version) and your car will sound 300% better over stock with the factory MSP axle-back exhaust!

02pro-es is from the same area as me and hes got an 02 es. its got the mazdaspeed axleback and vibrant intake, which makes the car sound really sweet with a nice exhaust note. its overall a pretty sweet protege plus its lowered on goldines, so nice stance. but yea another thing, if you get the 03 mazdaspeed axleback (like mine) its got mazdaspeed printed on the side of the tip and on the 03.5 its a diff tip plus its only printed on top i believe.

ive got a 01 protege and was thinkin of replacing my aftermarket exhaust with an MS factory exhaust. Im seeing both good and bad reviews, but my exhaust now is way too loud and I dont want that anymore. No mods to the engine....does that help with the loudness?

question about the MSP exhaust

I have a question about your exhaust, is it a Mazdaspeed protege 03? I was thinking of getting one for my 01 protege. I have an aftermarket exhaust and Im tired of it, too loud. Do you recommend it, is it loud and it does work on a protege sedan?
