2003~2008 Mazda6s won't start, at a loss...Help!

Hi guys, new to the site. I have a problem with my 2004 Mazda6s SportWagon 3.0L V6 automatic transmission. No mods. just replaced CV joint and axle. Started car every day as it sat for a month until I could afford the part and the time to repair.

Needed to jumpstart it, must have left something on and I grounded out the system by bumping the loose cable ends together. Car turns over as if it has no compression and won't start. No blown fuses and relays look fine. What am I missing? Is it possible my key is no longer recognized?

I'm at a loss...Please help, thanks!

You may have drained the battery by doing this.

Car turns over as if it has no compression and won't start.
Are you getting spark? Pull a plug and watch it (leave it connected) while turning over the engine.

Please excuse any frustration that may seep through in my response. This is my first Mazda and it being the short lived 6s V6 SportWagon I've run into more than a few headaches just due to my unfamiliarity.

Many thanx for your response.. I've figured out by process of elimination. I'm not ungrateful for at least one person responded. But the obvious thing is a a dead battery even one below 11.5 will fire off with a jump start and this is a 21 yr old car that's seen lots of jumpstarts. Battery 8 mos old.

The problem as it turns out is the security system isn't recognizing the key and the little car with a key in it lights up while cranking the motor. I actually got this information from Gemini III after some technical language discrepancies got hashed out. Google seems to think we're supposed to adjust our language to AI rather than the other way around so It took a few rounds of me straightening my assistant out to adjust to the user and known shop language/technical jargon and sub-models.

Now, how do I fix it? The battery disconnect handshake thing doesn't do the job....

What you are describing is the car immobilizer. A bad immobiizer is not impossible, but I wouldn't fully trust AI diagnostic and jump to that conclusion. It is normal for the car immobilizer symbol to light up.

A few points

(1) You can check if the engine immobilizer is working by turning the key to ON (the position without cranking the engine) and waiting about 3 secons to see if the symbol goes away. If it goes away after about 3 seconds then the immobilizer recognizes the key. The video in my point 2 below shows how that is happenning. The light would turn off after 3 seconds, when he was trying to crank the car the light would show up, but it was actually not related to the reason it wasn't starting. The owner manual says (page 3-20)

Disarming

The system is disarmed when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position with the correct ignition key. The security indicator light illuminates for about 3 seconds and goes out.
If the engine doesn’t start with the correct ignition key, and the security indicator light keeps illuminating or flashing, the system may have a malfunction. Consult
an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Have you seen this thread? He posted a video and you can check it to confirm if it is exactly the same thing your car is doing. In his case it was the 15 amp fuel injector fuse in the engine compartment fuse bay had blown. Replacing the fuse fixed everything.
