They laugh that I bought black in February!!

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?

2007 Mazda5 Grand Touring
color: Whitewater Pearl
trans: 4-sp auto
options: interior cargo cover and pearl paint
other add-ons: bought several factory accessories - all-weather floor mats, vinyl cargo area liner, bumper step, cargo rack (Mazda accessory made by Thule), medium cargo box (basically a 76" Thule Evolution)

2. Whereabouts are you located?

SF Bay Area

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Our first, but parents owned an '89 MPV, which provided 8 very reliable years of service until it got flooded out

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

VW Passat and Mazda6 wagons, Chevy HHR, Pontiac Vibe (since it's built close to our house). Did not want any SUVs, 4WDs, or XXL "mini" vans.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Just the right exterior size, excellent price, and more fun to drive than other SUVs and minivans

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

traction control, 5-speed AT, 2.3 DISI MZR engine option

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

already added the aforementioned factory accessories, now looking for a center console option with less glare.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

yes, seeing more and more of them on the road

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

Most people had no idea that the Mazda5 even exists. People we know who are shopping for small SUVs or minivans very quickly added the 5 to their list of cars to test out after seeing ours. They share our frustration of having so few true wagons to choose from in this price range and size, and being forced to look at inefficiently packaged compact SUVs and bloated oversized minivans to meet our needs. Having room for 6 passengers, a list price below $18k, well appointed interior, and a responsive chassis, make it one of the most practical cars on the market and it's easy to see once people actually see one in person.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

I refer to it as a tall wagon, since it reminds me of the Axxess, Expo, and similar cars from the late-80s that went by that moniker.

It's definitely a space wagon, but that term isn't used much in the U.S. since that class of vehicles for all intents and purposes is limited to the 5 and the Rondo.

In an effort to learn more about new Mazda5 owners, I created a little quiz. Please answer only if you have bought a Mazda5:

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
Sport / Phantom Blue Mica / 4AT / carpet mats, door guards, bumper guard, roof rack, cargo box
2. Whereabouts are you located?
Southwestern USA
3. Is this your first Mazda?
Not really, I drove my parents' 1992 MPV in high school.
4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
We were all set to buy a Toyota Sienna, then just fell in love with the 5 (and out of love with the Sienna).
5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Cost, size, drivin' fun!
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
I bought an 07, and all the changes I would make Mazda IS making in the 08. I'm just an impatient kind of gal LOL
7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Possibly a DVD system. Oh, and the addition of 3 car seats ;-)
8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Yes.
9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Shock that we went with it over a Sienna. We must be crazy (boom07)
10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
MicroVan
11. What question did I forget to ask?
What I paid

1.Sport, True Silver, 5mt, preferred equipment package
2.Inwood, WV about ten miles from Summit Point Motorsports Park
3.My first, won't be my last
4.Scion XB, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Rondo, Probably the Scion
5. Chair height driver seat, how it drives, how it looks
6. Most of them have been handled for 08, however I would add an audiophile grade stereo (dolby 5.1) and make HIDs standard across the board
7. God help me, yes. Tint, clear corners, tweeters, spin on oil filter from the 6i, center row table from the Touring, smoothed airbox w/K&N the list is endless
8.Not very many, maybe half a dozen total
9.Everybody seems to love it. I had a guy in an Odyssey playing twenty questions with me while I was filling up the other day. I think he was going to go trade up!
10.its a micro-mini-van, park it next to a Chrysler T&C and you'll agree
11. Why don't the magazines ever drive the 5 speed?

California's Central Coast

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Yes

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

I couldn't really find anything else! CR-V and RAV 4 don't have enough rear cargo space for my needs, while Caravan, etc. were too big and bulky; and all were lower mileage.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Ample cargo space, but with---
---Compactness and maneuverability
Price

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

Besides the "givens" (armrests, rear air cond, etc), they would be:

Better mileage
A bigger/more fully opening moonroof: if you're going to offer one, make it right!
Better & more fully adjustable seats & headrests (at least in front row): the headrests should adjust front-to-back; I had to put the driver's headrest on backwards so it is at least tolerable!

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Got the windows tinted. Nothing further planned.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

It's taken months, but I've finally now seen 2 in my area.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

Very, very favorable. Especially the color: nearly everybody who says anything at all offers up a big compliment on the color! Mazda, I think you made a HUGE mistake by discontinuing the Cardinal Red!!!!

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

I continue to call it a compact minivan. (and the term "minivan" in the USA I think is a total oxymoron, but never mind....)

11. Other comments:

I've had the car about 7-1/2 months as of this posting, with 3900 miles (I try to limit my driving and gasoline consumption as much as possible). So far it's been trouble free. Total mileage so far = 25.8 mpg.
