I was checkin out the B&M web page and

Ford Focus 03 (April 02-later) 45158

Might this shifter work with the Mazda3?

we were talking to the mazda guy and he said that it did not come up with a ford part number, who knows some one would have to try it

i'm pretty sure that the Focus made after that timeframe had switched over to the 2.3 found in the 3. time to call B&M :)

I'm sure one of the guys that makes parts for both the Focus and the Mazda3 said they are two different trannies. I think the Focus tranny is the same as the older models with different parts like the bell housing.

We'll be releasing out Mazda 3 shifter later this month. I'll update the release here as soon as the part is available.

Thanks,

Bushings, too?

The kit will include aluminum bushings which mount the shift assembly to the chassis. These replace the stock rubber bushings and provide a much more direct, solid shift feel.

Why aluminum instead of polyurethane? Won't it wear?

Just curious.

Aluminum is actually much tougher than polyurethane in terms of standing up to wear. Normally polyurethane is used in applications where some flex is still required or there is some vibration to absorb, i.e. engine mounts, rod actuated shifters (like the Protege 5).

Because the Mazda 3 shift linkange is cable actuated there is very little vibration transmitted to the assembly. Aluminum bushings create a far more rigid link between the assembly and the chassis and offer a much more solid shift feel. Basically they remove all of the vagueness or slop from the shifter.

Thanks.

Ahhhh... I didn't realize we had a cable shifter. (braindead The weather's been too crappy for me to do much crawling around under the car.

Yep. Aluminum makes sense.

You guys do anything with engine mounts?

Yeah, the mods are coming now! Can't wait for the shifter. Will itwork with the stock boot and shifter or will it come with a new knob?
Stiffer engine mounts would be nice too.
