Thanks for the info.... I wonder how much HP the 2.3 engine will have here in the US

the US spec 2.3L motor is the 4Cyl Motor currently available in the Mazda6 .. produces 160HP and 155lb-ft Torque.

hmmm japan also has the same 2.0 16v motor which produce 150hp

not sure about usa are they really fitting their 2.3L engine in the mazda3? well i am not sure ...

ow btw the 2.3 L engine from the mazda 6 proudece 163 HP over here

and i have heard that UK has a 3.0 V6 for the mazda 6

it says 160HP right on www.MazdaUSA.com .. it's DOHC w/Variable Valve Timing.. sure would be sweet to have it in my P5!! for the US spec.. we probably lose 3HP due to emissions standards??

Also, on the website, if you go to vehicles -> upcoming vehicles, you'll see the Mazda3 and it lists the 2.0L option or 2.3L motor.. along with a brief write up about the Mazda3, some pics of the front and back and a nice flash animation.

edit: the US also have a 3.0L v6 for the Mazda6 (220HP, 192 lb-ft Torque)

damn really? why not inholland

holland doesnt have it
and all cars are very expensive here o_O damn!!! the 2.3 active will be 35.000 euro its more than 40.000 us dollar

I am ticked!! I cannot believe that Mazda would discontinue the P5 and the Mazdaspeed after all of the hype and advertisement. Not cool!! A two year US production car is unheard of unless the car is a lemon from the start. We all know that the p5 is an awesome car that could use a little more HPs but the style is amazing! I really wish that Mazda would make up their mind. They did this about 10 years ago with the MX3 and the MX6. Geeez!!! (argh)

yes North American car prices are significantly lower than rest of the world's.

we also get larger engines than rest of the world.

just FYI, the 2.3L in Japan (for Atenza) makes out 175hp. So yes US emissions do kill power output significantly.

You have to realize that the current Protege/Protege5 has been out since 1998 in Japan....it's getting dated. Mazda doesn't want to pull a "GM" and keep the same damn car for 10 years. ::cough::Cavalier::cough::

thankfully, that cavalier has finally been discontinued.. no news on what will replace it.

Fine by me.... just means we'll have a rare car. :)

I think we will start seeing engine swapability like the Honda's. It would be nice to have a 2.3 litre 160 HP motor in the P5, especially with more torque and Variable Timing. If the 2.0 turbo manifold will not bolt up, i'm sure someone will make one.

Unfortunatley we already looked into this, the engine bay is reversed on the 2.3. The intake is by OUR radiator. The entire drivetrain will not fit properly. It would take alot of $$$ to make it happen

Damnit, they did a civic Si on our asses.

I had a 2001 Civic and was waiting for the Si to come out, and they did the same thing, turned the engine around. I think Hasport ended up making a kit for it anyway. You just have to change the tranny an axles along with it.(uhm)

Ahhh, here it is. The K20 rotates oppisite of the stock D17, so it is possible. Looks like there could be a new market for custom Mazda mounts. Hmmmm.. Masport :D
