mazda3/good choice

Hi,
I was in the market for a new car,and mazda 3 is one of my top choice of cars..I test drove a mazda3 2.3 couple weeks ago,and thought it wasnt too bad of a ride. I havent test drove a normal version,but cant imagine its that much difference. Figure 2.3 has a little more getty-up. Ive kept putting off buying a car,and since 2.3 is a hot item right now my chances of getting one right away are slime(least color,4door).
Hatchback version of 2.3 is oky, not sure I like it that much. Think I despise the backend,and how it rounds out. I'm on my way to relook at one,and hopefully I will decide next week for sure. As I said, I keep putting it off. Guess its spending 18-19k for a car,but as Im not comfortable driving my POS beretta anymore its gotta be done..If I cant get 2.3 in color i want(titanium), I would settle for a non-2.3 unless they work me a good deal on hatchback(2.3)..
Brings me to my point. Is it a decent car, any major issues? Would be buying a 2006,unless I can hold off for 2007 version. Ive looked at scions,though they are sharp,I cant get past the cheesie interior,and low ride. Guess its do to fact Im getting little bit older,and dont think my body could handle getting in and out of a low ride. Plus it seems scion was made for young driver to trick out,and Im not that young,and I dont hot rod around anyways..

welcome to the boards... if you hold out you can get a MazdaSpeed 3 this Fall... it should have LOTS of get-up-n-go, otherwise, waiting for the 2007' to deliver will drop the prices of the 2006's , however, you'll have to make consessions on what you want. I've seen it a few times with Protege's...

I have a 2004 2.3 sedan and love it. I would suggest waiting until october november to buy because the dealers will be dying to get rid of the 06 models. I did that with mine and got 1500 off the msrp. With 20,000 miles on my car I can sell it today for more than I paid for it. I am going to sell or trade the car when the mazdaspeed 3 is released.

Ya, price > options. I dont know much about the mazda speed 3,will have to do some research on it...I looked at them again today. Only 2.3 they have now is hatchbacks,which all aint that bad. had a black one 20k,right at my threshold for price.

just visited mazda's website, and mazdaspeed is out of my price range..

The 07's major improvements are going to be a little smoother ride and lower interior noise and I think I heard a little improvement in gas mileage. Other than that it will be strictly cosmetic. If you have a Costco card, use the auto buying program, I got $1,200 off mine on Saturday haggle free.
