Mazda3/Focus Interchangabillity

Well the 2.3 Mazda and 2.3 Duratec are basically the same motor, mazda has its minor tweaks and so does ford.

I know that the cosworth balance delete shaft kit works on the mazda 2.3

so does anyone know if the cosworth intake manifold or race header would also work?

What about the cossy cams?

I think this needs to be looked at because there can be some major n/a and f/i gains with these parts.

some stuff can be interchanged but with the intake mani we have a tbw they have a reg tb, race reader you will probably have some clearance issues as the mz3 suspension and mounting system is different... though you may not. and the cams are probably a waste of time as we have vvt and the focus does not.

too bad the vvt is for better emissions and doesnt really put any numbers worth thinking about

non vvt head + Cams pwns head with vvt

what the hell is tbw? if it physically bolts together you can always make it work. (its called tuning and chopping pcm codes to a custom burn, i do it with my brothers focus, my friends saturn, and my old escort all the time)

I believe it is the European version that is common with the 3, not the US model. The euro versions always are so much better (as far as Fords). Dont know why we cant get what they do. They are a top car there, yet they are hurting over here. Take a hint.

thanks redspeed...

some people have made it work with the cosi intake mani but it isn't easy and i believe it does toss a cel due to the selonoid for the different runner lengths... and as far as getting into the ecu and just chopping stuff up good f-in luck... there are performance companies with years of exp on domestics and imports that can't get into the mazda ecu so good luck with that.

My last car was an 96 escort gt with an rx7 rear end, miata tranny and 1.8BPT running a t04e, i made it work from talking to ron from rs motors over the phone using his custom software and ems i had to upload info from both pcms and convert the files to readable files for the new ems. It seems like everyone here thinks its too big of a pain in the ass to do stuff that doesnt just bolt on. And if you dont have a mazdaspeed your just unsufficiant.

p.s. to do with the quote i quoted, ive been tuning cars since i was 15 and am opening my own tuning shop as soon as im out of school with a degree and my buddies come back from the marines.

i don't disbelieve you or your abilities man its just he mazda ecu is notoriously invasive and hasn't been cracked... the protege was never and the 3 hasn't yet... so its not like you can just add things to the firmware cause you can't get in there. if you were to get a stand alone then sure but to go directly through the ecu is prob not going to happen.
