Mazda Welcome Illumination Kit

I purchased all three last year from that exact dealership. They were super people to deal with and the only dealership that shipped to the USA.The picture shows red in the footwell lights but my came in blue.Maybe a change in model years? Get ready for taking the interior of the CX5 totally apart! The power hookup is in the rear driverside quarter panel.Check my old thread I think it starts My Wifes New CX5.

Tireman...

Are you able to scan the instructions for installation for me?

Also, by driver's side I'm guessing you mean left. The quarter panel is the one by the driver's foot, where the fuse panel is located?

Any help would be appreciated before I leap into something like this project.

Cheers..!!

I went and checked in my Mazda stuff and could only find scuff plate instructions, not the install for the footwell lights.PM me and I will be glad to scan and send monday from the office.I had looked before and could not find, had it stuffed inside some other paper work.

Tireman1...

I'd be happy with a description and a couple of pictures.

Was it all plug and play? or some splicing involved?

Thanks..!!

Those prices are a rip. You can buy equivalents and get them installed for less than what they charge for the parts alone (or self install). ex a LED strip for under the dash that can be cut as well, runs $5-10. They want 50 lbs(lel lbs/pounds get it?).

Think I paid 70 lbs with fitting included. They do not light up the footwell as well as shown in this photo.

Yea, I used these; they are wired to the fuse box on the driver side, and they light up the entire well. Mine aren't in my ebay history anymore but I'm pretty sure these were it. My well is pretty much lit up like that, and I have mine on a small switch.

Where exactly did you hook those up? Are these on all the time or turn off after a while?

I have them on a switch on the right bottom of the dash. I did not hook them up myself but this is where they appear to be plugged into in my fuse box (I also have the door sills so I tried to pick it out without removing trim or un zip-tying any of the wires). There is a fuse wired into it as well because that line has another splice on it (I'm not sure if it's the door sill or the other strip is on a different fuse and wired into he same switch). If you use a multimeter I'm sure you can find the plug you need.

Are the lights wired in a fashion that when the doors open they come on? Or does the switch just simply turn them on or off?

Thanks..!!

To clear it up.. I have them on a toggle switch. I did not want them on only with the door, and I did not want them on all the time. I typically only have them on when it's darker.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I was trying to figure out where the power is picked up from the interior lights..!!!

I would definitely like to set this up. I had something similar in my previous car.

I would like to ask about where to plug this in, do you know which fuse position you used?

None of the fuses (or empty slots) in the driver footwell are tied to the headlights or dome lights. I settled for always on while the engine is running. You can draw power from the first empty slot, from the top, on the right. I used a fuse tap and a 5 amp fuse, although I'll replace that w/ a 2 amp when I can find one (radar detector is on same tap). The mini low profile fuses are still scarce. Had to order the tap on eBay. I ended up just using blue LED strips i picked up at Walmart. Turned out great, blue light is barely visible during the day but just right at night.

Pics below of LED strips I used and of pass side mounting. Drivers side strip is mounted to white plastic wire cover immediately behind the steering column. Very easy install, I pulled the glovebox and the footwell cover over the fuses to make things easier - but you could probably do it with the the fuse cover off. Drilled a single 1/8" hole a the end of the strip to route the pass side wire more cleanly.

I wanted to hook up some sort of LED lightning that would turn on/off when doors are opened/closed. Upon checking the fuses I found out that the dome light fuse is in engine compartment box, not the cabin.

I dropped the idea.
