Mazda Warranty Extensions for Cylinder Head Leaks for TSB01-002/23

We're not in April so that's a good sign!

Is it me or is the verbiage specifically for engine failure due to the coolant issue? So another word, the warranty extension is to only cover the coolant issue.

Absolutely great news. This should be cross posted in all relevant threads.

Hmm, well now that you mentioned it and I re-read it, now I'm thinking it could be the opposite of what you're suggesting.

for necessary repairs if the covered vehicle has coolant leaks at the cylinder head, around the exhaust manifold.

I mean, for your engine to get destroyed, the coolant needs to be leaking INTO it on the inside, right? Meaning you wouldn't have evidence of a leak from the outside like "around the exhaust manifold" like it suggests? Maybe they're only fully covering cracked cylinder heads and not instances where the engine got destroyed and needs replacing? Hopefully that's not the case as that would be an extremely BS thing for them to do.

It says if the leak is matching the TSB. You have to refer to the TSB to see what exactly is covered.

I'm thinking we should have a thread dedicated to compiling a list of dealerships per state where people who have already had work done to either replace their cylinder heads or engines can post their experiences and ratings of the dealerships they went to.

It would be a good resource to have for people to reference what dealerships did botch jobs or had bad customer service so you know which ones to avoid should the issue happen to them and need to take it into a dealer. Last thing you want is to have this happen to your Mazda and then have the dealership screw up the repair or make it worse.

My understanding of the problem is that if the external coolant leak is so severe that the engine overheats, and the cylinder head warps, and the coolant then enters the oil spaces, and the engine is destroyed, the cause is from the external coolant leakage.

The question then will be if the driver stopped the engine as soon as safe after seeing a high temperature or low coolant level warning. Stopping the engine at the first trouble sign will likely prevent damage to the engine short block. Or, stop, let the engine cool, refill the radiator and expansion tank with water or antifreeze, and proceed until the next warning is received.
