Does anyone have any updated news or anything further on the Mazda smoking turbo fix they allegedly have coming out????

No news here, but my 2008 MS3 goes in for a new turbo on Wednesday. Because I bought it used I had to provide a service history from Car Max, but it is being covered under warranty. Bought it with 12.75k miles, now has 21k.

Man, with all the crap Toyota and Honda is facing nowadays, it would behoove Mazda to fix this damn issue. Smoking turbo still happening for me as well--smells like burning plastic! My car gets nothing but synthetic oil and has been meticulously maintained and this is th elove i get from it--fkn sucks.

well this issue won't exactly kill you, so its not like what honda and toyota are facing.

Well. I disagree. The MS6 is the most powerful performance car Mazda has ever devised and it needs to stand by it fully. At almost 35k fully loaded when it came out, it kills the wallets of most average working people who buy it. The Legacy GT Spec B was the clear contender we also had to choose from and many of us now cringe at not jumping the gun to a subie. Sure, Mazda didn't throw in a crap load of aftermarket parts like Subaru and Mitsubishi did with the STI and EVO. But @ the price Mazda commanded--we all expect better stock parts. And it's not like we dump the clutch and destroy the tranny like new owners of the R35 GT-R do to start the smoking turbo, the problem happens at idle. We don't have to do crap to start the issue other than start the freakin engine whereas toyota and honda and nissan cars need a little more action to tip their problems into motion.

I have a 2010 MS3 with 2500mi on it and I don't notice any smoke but I do smell a burning plastic smell after a long drive. I just did my first change with synthetic, what's the best way to determine if the turbo is indeed smoking?

you probably won't have the issue with the 2010 ms3. the burning plastic you smell is just all the components in the engine bay breaking in from all the heat cycles.

I figured that's what it was, but I'll keep an eye on it and see how things go.

Got my MS3 back with a new turbo and down tube. Runs really well now. Some smell from the burn off on the new parts, but really smooth power curve now.

Oh, and the best way to tell if your turbo is smoking? Look for smoke from the exhaust. My first encounter was a huge cloud of gray/white smoke from the rear of the car while idling in the parking lot.

Have you been denied warranty service on this issue? My dealer has been very responsive, and just followed the steps required by Mazda. On my second visit, they ordered the new turbo. To me that is standing by it fully.

Well, I haven't been to the dealer about the issue yet. However, my point is that it is still not a definitive fix for the problem since many MS6 owners who had the new turbo still experience the same issue.

Have you looked into the Turbo pill fix? I saw it on another forum and a lot of people said it resolve the problem.

Yes, I've heard of it and it is available from ptp-performance. Everyone i know who has put one in their MS6 has complained about it so im not gonna waste my time. Point is, Mazda should be taking care of this crap and i will be paying them a visit this coming week.
