Mazda Ryuga Design Concept

Mazda North American Operations will unveil an all-new concept car, Mazda Ryuga, and its all-new Mazda Tribute Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. All attending media are invited to the companys formal unveiling on the Mazda show stand at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.

Mazda Ryuga builds on Mazdas concept of flow. Nagare Japanese for flow -- debuted at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show and introduced the companys new design future. Ryuga Japanese for gracious flow, and the next generation of this exciting concept will reflect a higher level of sophistication achieved through the use of rich fabrics, engineered fits and hidden details. Mazda Ryuga is elegant and refined, but with spirit and edge, portraying unique Japanese beauty.

Ryuga is Zoom-Zoom defined, said Laurens van den Acker, Mazdas global design director. It combines vibrance, confidence, fun and youth all in one ingenious package.

Offering another, although far more immediate and real, look into its future, Mazda also will debut the 2008 Mazda Tribute HEV. The heavily revised Tribute HEV will be the first advanced-technology vehicle dedicated to clean air that Mazda will sell to the public when it becomes available later in the year.

The Tribute HEV is one of the least-polluting vehicles on the road, yet still delivers the performance required by SUV owners. With a combined power output of its gasoline engine and electric motor of 155 hp (116kW), the Tribute HEV provides plenty of power yet meets strict Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEVII) and Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards in California the strictest emission regulations a gasoline-fueled vehicle can meet.

Also on display at the show will be the all-new seven-passenger SUV Mazda CX-9, the five-passenger SUV Mazda CX-7 and the balance of Mazdas 2007 product lineup.

My opinion, typically they cost tooooooooooo much to become production cars. Will they be similar, probably, that is why concepts looks so cool though. They put a lot of cash and time into them.

Remember that crazy center console on the CX-7 concept?

The gull wing doors might not make it into the final design, but it shows the direction of the Mazda design team.

I've had these pics for a while now. Thought it was called the NAGARE. Did they change the name?

Ya the Ryuga is a totally different car, hasn't been unveiled yet. As for the concept cars themselves, rarely any of them make it into production, that isn't always the manufactureres intention. Most concepts are made just to show what the company is capable of making, and the direction they look to be going in the future. I'm sure gullwing doors and the wheel/tire design you see on the Nagare will never be on production cars, but wild new designs attract attention. People will remember the crazy things that you don't see everyday. If you ask me, the Kabura was a concept that could make it to production, and atleast be similar to what we saw. That car was awesome.

That's true of most concept cars......Think back to the 50's and 60's and some of the stuff they thought we'd be driving now. Kinda looked like the Jetson's gone wrong. Some really good design concepts came from those one-off cars though, like the Mustang taillamps, the Corvette grille, etc.

The idea is to show what's being bounced around in the R&D departments and design areas. Maybe in 20-30 years some of these designs may show up. I recall seeing large (18-20") rims and low profile tires at the auto shows back in the 80's, but its only now they are cost effective and technologically feasable to build and offer on a car.

Looking gooooood!!!

Is this a possible shift from the previous NAGARE that was displayed. It still looks real good. can't wait to see what the future brings...
