(laserp5) (rockon) hey! mazda freaks, what's up! has or does anyone out there have the mazda sport exhaust? let me know how the fit and sound are, I was just looking at one for my p5 on the mazda performance website and it looks like a really nice exhaust. (upbum)

Oh, it is really nice, if you want a very deep, non ricer sound, this is THE exhaust for you. It sound really nice in acceleration, and at cruising speed(3000rpm) it rumbles really loud. It can be trying on long trips, but just crank the tunes up a bit. Better a deep sound, than a Honda wannabe sound, no(rice)(ricer) for me, hehehe. It's really nice, and the good thing, is that you can get it from your dealer. Trust, it's really nice, and fits nicely, and looks like the car needed to have this baby right from stock it is such a smooth catback look. Well worth the $$$$$

(first) exhaust for the car in my personal opinion, best part is that the dealer installs, so no worries about the warrenty

I love mine, too! Some people have put one in and complained that it was too loud, but it's not bad at all. IMO
if you wanna see a pic, check my imagestation album;)

thanx alot guys thats what I was hoping to hear, all of your positive responces just helped helped me make my choice.

Sorry, I forgot that you need to be a member to look at pics on Imagestation...here's my M/S Muffler.;)

thanks eggynatey, I already joined but the pics are great sharp lookin p5 you have. Where did you buy your exhaust

wow, that looks exactly like the Racing Beat Muffler that comes with the mp3 - anyone know if it's the same?

i put mine in and am still getting used to it.

at 4k rpm it gets really loud and starts to drone on the freeway.

but everyone is right, it is a nice deep sound...unless of course you accelerate too fast..than it starts getting fart-can-ish.

if you buy it install it yourself.

there are only two bolts and two rubber things holding the entire exhaust. removal of the old exhaust and installation only took 30 minutes...including jacking the car up and taking off one rear tire. =D

Might I suggest the HKS Exhaust for the Pro5. Chris @ SPD (a member here) has 2 left at $205 + shipping in the US. A steal of a deal considering they're 300+ on the 'net now.

(just bought mine today)

Is there a difference between a Mazda Sport muffler and a MazdaSpeed muffler and how much does it cost for the piece with installation?

does anyone know if adding a resonator before the MS Exhaust would make it a little more bearable at cruising speeds? i would love to get an exhaust but i drive a ton on the freeway and it is constantly at 4,000 so i would go nuts if it were too loud. i have heard of people doing two thrush resonators and then the exhaust and getting something that was deep but no too loud.

The Mazda Sport muffler is the one you see for $200 (or so) that is the axle-back for the Protege5. However the MazdaSpeed muffler is the one found on the MSP and the tip is shaped differently (much) than the Sport. However I'm unsure of diameters/decibel differences.

I personally think the MSP muffler looks much better than the Sport edition.

The ACTUAL Mazdaspeed muffler, from Mazdaspeed Japan (Group A muffler) is considerably different... It looks very simple, but nice. The Mazda Sport exhaust actually SAYS Mazdaspeed on it, so a lot of people refer to it as the Mazdaspeed exhaust for the Protege5. The Mazdaspeed Protege's exhaust itself is actually made by Racing Beat, and they make a version for the Protege5... Otherwise, the Muffler from the Mazdaspeed won't fit right without cutting a large chunk (6" or so) of piping off of the tail section. Hope that clears it up some. =) Below is a picture of the Group A Mazdaspeed exhaust, found on Corksport (http://www.corksport.com/) for about $600... A bit more than the 195-220 dollar Mazda Sport muffler.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide on which exhaust to get. Maybe I'll go with the Mazdasport exhaust due to price.

snacks mcgee,if you go to mazdaperformance.com they have the mazda sport exhaust pictured and it lists for $195 (for mp5)

yup...the mazda sport exhaust is a good alternative to the actual japan mazdaspeed exhaust...for that price although it looks nice you could get a catback system and some...i'll have to look at my money situation but i might...caution "MIGHT" be selling my mazdasport exhaust if i can afford a new system...

To get rid of the drone you can put dynomat (or something like it) under the rear hatch carpet, it will bring the inside noise down..
