Mazda Speed Protege Vs. Vw GTI 1.8 Turbo?

Very true... they were both pull-up and go type runs so I didn't have a chance to inspect either car... my experience has been that the VR-6 gti's/jettas do tend pull harder than the 1.8t but the numbers in comparo's are like you said very close

i have an msp, and my brother has a 1.8t. his gti has a nice little kick to it. it's a tough call, although i'm leaning towards the 1.8t. Eitherway his car is hot. Heated leather seats, sunroof, sick VW interior. yummy

I spanked a 25th anniversery edtion Golf 1.8t by like 1 sec. with only a injen cold air intake! But that was like 2 years ago since then I have added a ghl turboback, turbohoses smic and hardpipes with greddy flange, greddy type s bov, kartboy short shifter, greddy oil cath can, defi boost gauge, defi etg gauge, leadfoots custom gauge bezel, greddy turbo timer, and one new tranny!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to race him again. :)

GTi. my friend has one, and i can walk him, but all he's got is an intake and diverter valve. i, on the other hand, has got a good amount of basic mods, which is pretty sad

I don't know about stock for stock, but I know for a fact that you will get more bang for your buck with a GTI. My buddy is running 24lbs of boost daily on an upgraded turbo (not sure what size) and software, intake, upgraded DV, FMIC and NOS and his internals are all stock at 75k miles. The car runs about 320hp and has been doing so for about 50k miles and its bullet proof. VWs and Audis are far superior to the MSP and if I could go back, I would have saved more money and bought one rather than my MSP. I always kick myself every time I get to drive his car for the weekend. It'll run with a twin turbo porsche and to get our MSPs to do that we'd have to spend almost as much money as he has done just to get our engines to be able to handle that kind of boost!

Your right about the power, But cant you see how ugly they are. If I were you, I'd be happier with the speed.

When they are stock, they are quite ugly and that is the only advantage that the msp has over the vws stock, but if you do a little work to them, they can come out looking really nice.

Then take a look at these mostly stock special edition GTIs. They aren't ugly, they're yummy!

Speaking of, the new GTi, had anybody felt the shifter in the new ones? I sat in one at the international auto show last weekend and I threw up in my mouth a little. I love the looks and I am sure they are fast, but the shifter would have to be changed quick.

id take the msspeed guys seriously, gtis arent that nice. msp with afc, intercooler and exhaust, and you have a high 13 second car that is second to none in the twisties and is practical.

It's not that bad when you're driving. It's heads and shoulders above the one in the MSP.

comparing the two I liked the msp shifter better, the GTi had even more slop when it was in gear comapred to the msp in the same conditions. The shifter was one of my first changes in the speed though. Kartboy bushings, bronzeoils, and TWM with ball bearing bushings/ counterweighted knob. It feels very tight and positve, much like a STi shifter.

Yeah and with a chip instead of the afc on the gti, intercooler and exhaust, you are talking about 250hp on the gti versus nowhere near that with the msp. The point is, you will get more bang for your buck with the gti. The ammount of money you put into the gti/any turbo VW will return a lot more hp compared to the ammount of money you put into the msp and it will be 100% SAFE hp.

My buddy has an SRt-4 acr w/ stage 2 kit and i pull him like 5 cars up to 135mph.

---my current mods are: Unichip @11psi on map B, ion/kinetic FMIC, injen intake, corksport exhaust, tein s-tech springs, awr motor mounts, act clutch, corksport lightened flywheel.

Really, props to you. But, kind of Not believeable. Not saying its not possible, but with just those mods you have against a stage 2 srt, I dont know.

-----The SRT4 doesn't have exhaust yet though........but he's running 17-18 psi.....true story, i can just drive my ass off!!!!

why not go dsm??? 1/4 of the cost of both and proven engine... 5k into dsm vs 10k into gti

dsm>vw

but for the msp vs gti i would go with msp

wtf are you talking about. do you have any experience modding a msp or are you talking out of your bum? 12psi and the speed is making over 250HP reliably. now the gti still cant handle, has no lsd, is fat as a cow...where is the bang for the buck? because you get to make a VW sign with your hands like some tool lol too much specualtion on this board, nobody knows s***.

i wish i taped me beating countless gtis with chips, they had no idea what the msp could do either. just what they read on the internet lol dumbasses.

listen close

1. msp
2. afc
3. IC
4. exhaust cutout
5. 12psi

6. run 13.xx in the best handling stock fwd car (or if you know what you are doing you can pull a 13.1 or better on the STOCK ECU, but dont cause it really doesnt sounds like you know what to do)
