Mazda/Sanyo Screwed me!

So, my buddy just found out - while installing a system in his Mazda 5 - that the stock head unit cuts out EVERYTHING below 40Hz.

I have a system installed with a stock head unit as well. This explains the lack of earth-shattering bass.

Has anyone found a way to bypass this [apart from putting in a deck] which will allow us to keep the stealth look of the stock head unit but still get full range? Or does anyone know where we can get the schematic for the stock head unit [made by Sanyo] so we can mess with it ourselves?

Please help!

For the love of all that is good and holy (nekkid women included), PLEASE tell me this doesn't apply to the Bose HU in the MS3!

u cannot buy anything aftermarket for bose. u will have to remove THE WHOLE bose system and re-wire everything and then install a headunit, subs w/e u wanted at the beginning

i hope i understood ur concern...but yeah bose is crazy good...but it sux of so much!!!!

calm

relax all you lucky bastards with MS3's....

this appears to only be the case with the stock "Mazda" brand - sanyo made deck.

so i am not looking for aftermarket Bose stuff.

MS3's owners, change your pants and get on with driving a sweet-ass car.

The deck in my speed is made by Clarion. FWIW.

Clarion

Well you oviously got a better deal than me....

i forgot to mention i have the 06' GS sedan.

i thought mine in the 04 was a panasonic i could be mistaken though... next time i yard it out i will take a look.

OK, I have the same car as Rotus, sans the Nav and his mods...phew. As long as the stock GT HU has pre-outs to hook up an aftermarket amp, I'm happy.

Can you post pics? I want to see what an aftermarket stereo looks like in these.
It looks just like yours on the outside. It is the factory radio as delivered.

I thought the GT had bose??? Did you opt for the MP3 playing one?
It is the GT with Bose, no MP3. Bose makes the amp and speakers. Apparently Clarion makes the deck. At least that what the sticker on it says.

Wow... 40Hz is pretty bad... =/ Damn... bet my headphones do lower frequencies than that.

This is pretty common for stock stereos. It prevents user-error in the form of destroying the cheap speakers they install. Boost 100Hz and most people won't even know they are missing everything below it.

any advice on how to deal with this?

it's making me crazy and the prospect of loosing my thermomter - computer and steering wheel controls in lue of an aftermarket deck is gonna send me off the deep end.

[update - my buddy put his old apline deck in his 5 and the sound is a million times better - too bad there isn't an aftermarket face plate :P ]

There are several options on the market.

The JL Audio Cleansweep
The Rockford Fosgate 360
The PPI DCX-720 (maybe)

All of these units can be used to integrate with factory systems. They have EQs that will fix any short-comings of factory units.

Sweet!

you can get a very expensive dash kit from japan that lets you retain most of those functions because it comes with an electronic module
