Hey I was flipping channels yesterday and CNBC had a car show where they were previewing some models and interviewing editors from Motor Trend and Automobile. Anyway the question was one model or line to pay attention to for next year. The Motor Trend guy responds with some BS about Ford F-150, but the editor from Automobile (a woman no less) goes something like "2004 is all about Mazda, they do not make a single boring car...etc, etc". Oh and the Motor Trend guy picked the Prius as car of the year, while the Automobile chick picked the Evo VIII...just to show you where their perspectives are coming from.

the prius was motor trend's car of the year apparently "finally a car that doesn't sacrifice fun driving characteristics for practicality".

fun? 0-60 in 11+ seconds is fun? looking like a clothes iron from star trek is fun?

Yeah, I watched something about the Motor Trend guys driving the Prius. It's like an old boys club, anyhting that isn't a big old Cadilac or Licoln is either, "Fun" "Kinky", or "Not our style", that show is ****** up. They give cars everybody else raves about really low scores calling them disappointing, but really bad cars, everybody else hates, they simply love. They're sellouts, taking money to make cars look good. Toyota must've paid alot to get the prius to look good.
******* Martha Stewart probably knows more about cars than these ass *****. IMO

i think the prius is a pretty cool car.

not every car is going to run 12's or pull >1g. if i had a family and wanted a car that was huge inside, looked cool, and was good on gas, i'd probably look into it. it's a big step forward in the next generation of cars - more so than the EVO, anyway. and a huge leap beyond the old prius.

motor trend sucks, but  they have their own opinions that don't always correspond to everyone else's?!?!?!? how dare they.

as dmitrik said, it's not all about 1/4 mile times and horspower. The Toyota Prius is an engineering breakthrough. Soon enough gasoline is going to be in short supply and we're going to need cars that can use it wisely. If a car can do that, handle well, and have lots of interior space then that's quite an accomplishment. Name one other car that can do all of those things.
