Mazda Furai conecept galleries and live video (Detroit Auto Show)

Edit: Sorry if this was a duplicate, I misspelled "Furai" so nothing came up in the search. :-(

This thing is just pure sex and raw speed rolled into one. You know how they sometimes say a car looks fast standing still? From this moment on, this is the car that they will show as an example. Listen to the sound of the engine in the video. As Jalopnik said: "If you listen closely when the driver steps off the throttle, you can hear yourself wet your pants."

Too bad rotary engines are not allowed at Le Mans. I would dearly like to see this thing duke it out with the Aston Martins, Corvettes, and 911 GT2s. It might even be able to keep up with the Porsche RS Spyder and the Audi R10 in the LMP2 and LMP1 classes.

Well at least we know that they are KUMHO ECSTA tires. I was a little worried that we wouldn't know what kind of tires it would be using if they didn't put BIG RED LETTERS on them.

Those appear to be the same Kumhos BK Sports uses on there LMP car. I would not be surprised to see this car show up in GT2 in the near future. In one video you could clearly hear someone say "2008 ALMS" The car is shod with IMSA and ethanol decals as well, seems their intentions are pretty clear.

Sexy car although if they cleaned up some of the lines it'd be soo much sexier.

More Info:

Far from just a piece of art work on wheels, this working concept actually began life as one of Mazda's 2006-season ALMS P2 racecars.
Built on a Courage C65 chassis and powered by a 450-bhp three-rotor rotary engine, this ethanol (E100) powered concept car is an exercise in reverse homologation and represents an ideal within the Mazda philosophy, and that is to bridge the gap between single-purpose racecars (ALMS) and street-legal models (Ferrari Enzo, Lotus Elise) according to Mazda's Director of Design, Franz von Holzhausen.

Franz Von Holzhausen doesn't sound very Japanese to me! I mean you would expect VW or BMW to have someone German directing things over there right?? I'm just sayin!

Do you know the difference between WHEELS and TIRES? I guess not since I'm not talking about the tires...
