Just some notes about installing in our (new to us) 2017 CX-5 Touring. This is the Mazda “Frameless Auto-Dimming Mirror with Homelink”, p/n 00008CR06
Install took about 3 hours, and I could have cut that down a lot as follows:
1. The step regarding removing the A pillar tether clip isn’t needed. All you need to do is twist the existing one 90 degrees to release it from the A pillar cover, the same to reinstall when putting everything back together. Removing the old one is a PITA and installing the new one was as well. No point - just leave old one in there.
2. The last wire to tap in the A pillar “ EC Harness to Battery” was supposed to be Brown, but in our car it is Blue, and the one below it is Brown. Very confusing. I tapped into the blue wire in the documented pin position. All tests seem fine so assume that wire color can vary.
3. I could not release the A pillar speaker connector no matter how hard I tried. It just would not release. I was able to just work around it leaving it connected and putting the A pillar cover on the dash while working on the wiring.
4. They tell you to expose 1.5 in of wiring on the upper/male 24 pin A pillar connector, but you only tap into the lower female connector per instructions, so you can skip modifying the upper part. There’s no point.
If I’d known all this beforehand install would have been half the time or less. Hope this helps someone.
Finally, I like the new mirror! It’s slightly wider than the original manual/framed mirror. And the Homelink indicators for garage door going up/down/stop are pretty cool. Programming Homelink literally took 30 secs and the procedures in the CX-5 owners manual work for this mirror.
