2017~2025 Mazda Connect stuck? Media/Nav/Phone all greyed out, commander knob dead

Hi all,

I’m dealing with a frustrating issue on my 2019 Mazda CX-5 and would really appreciate some help or insight from anyone who's experienced something similar.

The problem:

  • Most of the infotainment system is disabled or greyed out:
    • Media, Radio, Navigation, and Apps are all greyed out and can't be selected.
    • I cannot listen to music at all, from radio, Bluetooth, or USB ->nothing is accessible.
    • The only functional area is "Settings", which I can still access via the touchscreen.
  • The commander knob and all physical buttons (Nav, Home, Back, Volume, etc.) are completely non-responsive.
It seems like the system is in some kind of restricted/limp mode, allowing only basic functionality.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Soft reset: Holding Back + Nav + Volume buttons -> no change.
  • Battery reset: Disconnected the negative terminal for ~15 minutes -> still stuck.
  • Removed all USB devices, SD card, and disconnected Bluetooth devices -> no effect.
  • Swapped in a working commander switch from another CX-5 -> still not working, so I’m ruling out hardware failure of the switch itself.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue?
Can this be resolved with a firmware update or reflash?
