Mazda Car Stereo Kit...

Would like some advice...

Hello all,

I'm in the process of upgrading my 3's entire audio system. I've purchased Alpine Type R 5X7 2 ways for the rear, Alpine Type R components for the front, a 4 channel Alpine MRV-F345 amp, and finally a possible new car stereo. I originally didn't want to mess with the factory head unit, but after reading many posts I think the only way to go is an aftermarket head unit for the best sound. I'll probably purchase the Alpine 9847.

My first question is...will the above system sound awesome (even with out a dedicated sub)? I'm no car audio guru but my guess is that it should sound pretty awesome. I don't feel like losing a lot of trunk space for a sub.

Also, Has anyone installed the new Mazda Kit that replaces the LCD display with a storage slot and adds a second storage slot under the aftermarket stereo? If so, how does it look? Can anyone post some pics of it? I would like to see how it looks in the dash before purchasing a new stereo.

My original goal was to have a system that was completely invisible until you turned on the stereo :) However, the alpine 9847 stereo looks pretty sleak, but I don't want the dash to look crappy.

Any pics or thoughts you guys could provide would be much appreciated!

Some pics.

thanks for the info...

Thanks for the feedback guys!

After seeing those pics, I'm very impressed with the way the metra kit fits into the dash. It also seems really easy to install.

I will definitely be purchasing an aftermarket stereo now!

Not really.
It will sound good for sure. I hope you selected those speakers by actualy listening to them for a good long time. Otherwise you'll likely be swapping them out within a year.

How well its installed will determin its overall sound.

One thing to know ahead of time, if you are not using a subwoofer the system will have less bass and midbass then it did before. The reason for this is that the aftermarket alpine speakers are really beuilt to play everything EXCEPT bass very well. So the factory speakers are crappier but tend to more easily reproduce some lower frequencies especialy at reasonable volumes.

I would highly suggest running the amplifer to the front speakers and then add a single type S alpine 12" or 10" subwoofer and power it with the rear amplifer channels. Powering the rear speakers with an amp is highly counter productive.

Thanks for the feedback 1sty. Adding a sub is definitely something to consider in the long run.

For now, should I really only have the amp power the front components? Will it sound better or worse than if I had the amp power both the front and rears? You meantioned it would be "counterproductive"? How so?

I'm still waiting for some of my stuff to arrive so I haven't installed anything. I'm just trying to plan out how I should do everything. Thanks.
