Mazda Canada and the CAI

Heard at work today (Mazda dealership) that Mazda Canada has sent out a bulletin concerning CAI's on the MS3's and MS6's. Dealers are no longer authorized or aloud to install CAI on these cars. Reason's haven't been given yet, they said they'd keep us posted on updates. I can look into this further if anyone is interested.

The same thing been going on down here in the states for a while now. Not sure what the truth is, heard lots of rumors though.

Because they wont tell us a reason it just makes me want to know now... The dealer told me about the stop sale on the Mazdaspeed CAI early March before I even bought my car so I never really considered it an option.

Buddy just got one installed here in BC...on Friday...I got mine at the beginning of the year and have no problems.

They stopped selling the MS CAI cause it throws a CEL. Does not harm the engine...according to my dealer.

It's throwing CEL's because it's running too lean which can harm the engine hence why it's no longer for sale.

Mines still stock but it runs rich, lot of tailpipe soot. That made me wonder why the TSB and the MS CAI problems are making it run lean if it runs rich to begin with.

yep it sure does! .......(blah)if you drive through a puddle thats 2 feet deep

haha x2.
If you hydrolock your motor cause of the CAI you deserve it. if a puddle is that deep its likely your car is gonna float away and if you are driving threw that much water your pry gonna need to replace your fluids also cause they pry got water in them. the filter is pretty well protected from the elements.
My dealer told me they stopped sale cause it was throwing a lean code when it was really cold. I got a cel a couple times in the winter when it was like single digits but it went away before i could check it.

Interesting... I was talking with a dealer here in Calgary about 3 weeks ago and they were willing to order one in for me.

I've also noticed the black soot around the exhaust. It turns completely black in a day or two. I was cleaning it daily for the first week and then gave up... (screwy)

I'm still cleaning the black soot weekly on mine. I just spray it with some wheel cleaner and it comes off pretty easy, I guess its the price you pay for a turbo. I still find it strange that the car runs rich stock but the MS CAI throws lean codes.

Until mazda comes out and says something official, it's all just conjecture.

Also, any variation from stock in the MAF sensor mounting, exposure to the intake air , and larger quantities of available air cause a need for the amount of fuel trim to be adjusted from the stock maps. It's not hard to see how a lean situation could result.

so now those who have it installed, what is going to happen with car warranty. I dont care about the money spent on the cai and if i have to put back the original equipement. i want to know if it affects warranty cause i put it in myself since it would have taken longer to drive to the dealer then putting it in.

if it was already on the car befor the issued the stop sale then it will not affect your warrenty.
