IRVINE, Calif. - The North American unit of Mazda said Tuesday August sales rose on higher demand for two of its most popular vehicles.
The company said total August sales rose 11 percent to 24,762 vehicles from 22,311 in the year-ago period. Car sales rose 8 percent to 16,678 in August, compared with 15,448 cars sold a year earlier. Truck sales grew 17.8 percent during the same period to 8,084 vehicles, compared with 6,863 in August 2006.
Sales of its most popular model, the Mazda3 sedan, rose 51.1 percent to 10,511, from 6,955, a year earlier. Its second-most popular model, the CX-7 sports utility vehicle, rose 18.5 percent in August to 4,072 vehicles, up from 3,435, a year earlier.
Year-to-date, sales rose 7.6 percent to 203,298 vehicles, compared with 188,978 vehicles in the year-ago period. Adjusting to reflect an additional selling day this year, sales grew 7.1 percent.


As a comparison with other automakers:
Mitsubishi: 19% increase
Nissan: 6% increase
GM: 6% increase
Honda: 4.7% increase
Toyota: -2.8% decline
Chrysler: -6% decline
Ford: -14.4% decline

I didn't realize that the CX-7 was their second most popular vehicle. This is actually good news for everyone that owns a mazda...
