Mazda and ***** are the same?

Okay so if Honda and Acura are ran by the same people, and Dodge and Christler are too, then who are we relared to? some one once told me that mazda and Renault were the same but im not to sure about that?

renault, wtf? renault is french and owns a massive stake in nissan i believe. ford owns a third of mazda and there is some parts sharing (though not on the protege) on the newer cars.

in terms of being direct siblings to another make however, there is none. mazda does not have its own acura (honda) or lexus (toyota) or infiniti (nissan). there were plans in the early 90s for a luxury make called Amati but those plans were scrapped and the only car to ever reach production on that line was rebadged the mazda millenia.

yeah, ford is going to be using a modified version of the mazda6 platform for a few of it's next gen vehicles (Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr). Personally, I think they look pretty good for a ford produced sedan...thinking ford 500 ***shudder***

Even though ford owns stakes in those companies they(ford) don't produce all their parts. Ford doesn't make the astons. Aston still is its own company as is mazda and jaguar.

To be exact... Ford has 46% financial ownership of Mazda. There is some sharing on some models (old MX-6 and Probe were virtually the same car), but no Ford stuff on our P5s that I'm aware of.

Jag just started sharing platforms. The X-Type, or whatever is the "cheapest" Jaguar, is a Ford 500 with a different body on it, if I remember correctly.

All Protege's were 100% Mazda, which I am happy about now that I own a MSP.

^^^ Yup. Well, sorta. The Lincoln LS and the Jaguar S-Type are built off the same platform. And the X-Type is the same platform as the Ford 500.

While platform sharing has been around for a long time, cross divisional platform sharing is a trend that will only continue to grow as car manufacturers see the cost savings. Instead of having 10 plants tooled for 10 different platforms, you can have multiple plants tooled for the same platform. You save a ton on engineering costs by not having to develop new platforms for new models. The cost savings are far reaching. So soon your Ford, Mazda, Jag, etc... will essentially be the same car.

My retired folks flew to Sweden to pick up there new Volvo S40 at the factory last month (a cool discount travel program). Under the skin, this is the same platform as the Mazda 3 and the upcoming Ford Focus.

It depends, many times Mazda uses their own head design and a Ford short block. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it is this way on the 6.
