Mazda 6 Fuel Miledge

I just purchased a 2004 Mazda 6s. I am guessing this is the speed model?? It has the 3.0 liter V6 engine. I have gone about 85 miles so far on the tank of gas and the needle is hovering a little above the half way mark. Is there a point at which the needle stay still for a long time or am I just getting awful gas miledge. I have been driving it to school in traffic alot but i hope it doesn't affect the gas miledge this much. Thanks for everyone's help.

First half of the tank takes a long time to get to the halfway mark, second half drops about 2-3x more rapidly.

The v6 model is the standard 6s.

Wait till the engine is past break-in miles before you start complaining.

Remember no cruise control, and vary the rpms!

04 6s heres the kicker... ODO Reading and Tranny Type? Also whats your tire pressure at and driving state(fast take offs and passing everything on the road or light take offs and ocasional redline runs)?

when my 6s atx was newer i averaged about 23-25 mpg with no problem. and it does seem to drop quickly, till you hit 1/4 tank, then it feels like it take forever to get to e. ;)

with the cp-e mafci setup i seem to average about 20-21 mpg. it can do better, but i would have to keep my foot out of it...lol..:)

I have noticed this on the MS6 Crossbow. Why is that? I always get excited thinking that my gas mileage is improving and then...BAM...the 2nd half of the tank disappears like nobody's business.

break in *sigh* 6 almost hit 9000 miles again.

im almost at 9000 miles in my ms6 and the needle is the same way....i base how well ill do on my gas on how far i get with half a tank, cuz the second half might as well already be gone.

I thought that the MS6 comes only in manual tranny.
Furthermore, mazda requires 93 octane so this is not a choice.
As far as the driving, true there is no standard but what about some averages?
these would be some good indicators
thanks for the reply mod

As for mpg ratings it really boils down to breaking period and driving habits. Both my cars get the exact same MPG but one only drinks 93. Do you have a mazdaspeed 6 or a mazda 6? If so What method are you using to calculate MPG?

Figure I'd dig this up again to help explain crossbows post.

wow...My wifes 6i with only the airbox mod and a K&N Drop In, 10 k miles on regular dino oil gets 32 hiway and 20 around town.(omg)

06 MS6S and I drive it hard all the time and I get between 19 and 21 all the time. I drive mostly country roads and maybe 5% freeway. I also drive between 50 and 70mph wherever I go. (Really bad lead foot) I just put an AEM CAI on three days ago and I haven't run a full tank throught yet so we'll see next week what it does to the mpg.

yea i get around 20 mpg on every tank and thats more city than highway driving but i have gotten as much as 24 mpg
