I've just looked at the Mazda monthly sales report

I would expect quite opposite.

I'm purely speculating...supplies of the 5 are tight right now; they're not exactly sitting on dealer lots. The '07s are just starting to arrive. It's tough to buy a vehicle that isn't available. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

I noticed that there was a Protege sold in 2005...wonder who got that one?

The dealer near me had nearly 20 beginning of the summer, maybe 3 now. So, following that trend I'd assume that sales slowed because there is less inventory to move.

I don't think the 07s are out here yet.

Question, When was the 5 introduced in NA?? The sales figures from last august appear to be from the launch and as such would not make a good comparison. August 2006 to 2007 would make a better comparison.

Looking at the numbers supplied, you could argue that Mazda's sales of the 5 are much better this year as they sold over 12000 cars YTD for 2006 where they only sold 2500 YTD for the same time last year!!!

You are correct, but the the data collection method is flawed. They are comparing a full 8 months of sales in 2006 to 2 months of sales in 2005 (for the mazda 5) this is a flawed method of reporting data. For a model that is introduced mid year they should be reporting for same periods of time. EG if 2005 YTD numbers start in july, then the comparison data for 2006 should also be from the same time period.

390% increase is misleading.

I agree I was just commenting on the stats someone else referred tooooooooo. I have never heard of such a jump in sales in my life.

I just bought a Touring on 9/4. The dealer I went to still had 4 Touring and 20+ Sport at that time. I think they are seriously overstocked.
