Mazda 5 after market exhaust?

I'm looking at buying a Mazda 5 to replace my Jetta Wagon.

So, I'm looking at what I can do to a new Mazda 5. I know asking the CAI question opens a bag of worms and it has been asked before.

Now, does anyone have any experience with after market exhausts on the Mazda 5 2.3l? I know that it wont have as much effect as it would on the turbo engine.

Love to hear your thoughts.
Anything else one can do to push the engine?

have you driven a 5? how do you know the performance won't be satisfactory for your needs?
I've had performance cars, and I find the 5 to be a lot of fun as is.
its not a dragster, but handles well, and the gears are spaced close to keep the revs up.

Actually I've driven the M5 quite a bit and that is the reason we're going that way (well that & sliding doors are God's answers to baby seats).

I think it is a peppy engine and like driving it.
I'm just a modder at heart and love to take everything apart and push it. So, if I HAVE to get a mini-van (tongue in cheek) I'd like to know how I can mess with it.

agreed and understood. I've modded just about every car I've ever owned (much to the dismay of my wife).
there are specific M5 exhausts made, but (to me) they are quite pricey. a cost/benefit analysis of a $700 set of pipes for a family car just doesn't work.

You too, eh? My wife has actually asked me if anything can be made that I'm happy with the way its made.

I agree that its pricey, although its not too bad - many of the exhausts or the Jetta are near $1k. Oh well.

When one says "buy a Mazda 3 exhaust and make it fit", what level of effort are you describing?

Bending a bracket?

Welding in a new bend?

Thanks for any clarity here...most vendors don't list a Mazda5 fitment, so it'd be swell to have Mazda3 items to choose from as well.

I wonder if its cheaper to just buy one made for the 5 than to go through that fuss. Exhaust is just something that I like to have hired out - don't like to gas my occupants.

I'm really suprised that it's not louder (which is good) - have you noticed any affects (HP / Torque / MPG)? Also, what is it like at idle?

NO gain in HP, in real life it's a little bit louder. But since this video was made i replace my Cat with High flow one and now it's making a nice loud sound

The Mazdaspeed accessories cat back i have is almost 40% custom piping and with the add of the free flow cat it's about 50% now. But i enjoy it each and everytime i got the chance to push it the 5 .

So (can any confirm) that there isn't any performance limitation (restrictions) in the factory exhaust, post cat?

Of course I mean this with a near stock engine - if you went to a custom turbo setup or similar, all bets are off.

My wife enjoys my passion for cars. She was shocked when I ditched my Saab (lightly modded) for a 5. I saved about $20K buying a Mazda over a new Saab, so I never get any negative feedback when I spend on cars. I even bought a '65 Spitfire to work on while I wait for the warranty on the 5 to run its course. Then the fun begins!

I can't say with the Mazda5. It has with my previous cars. I put the CAI/SRI on right after I bought the Mazda.

dude, nice. i used to have a 72 spitfire. i prefer the rear end of the later spits, but i also like the open grill of the mk1-2 versions. i would love to get a 73-74 and load some EFI throttle bodies on it, along with a custom exhaust and engine work.
