Mazda 3s vs. Scion tC

did you forget about the celica? yeah, its somewhat expensive, but thats their
" youth " attempt. i think the scion tc is a pretty nice looking car. i wanna see how the supercharged one turns out though.
If you read my first post in this thread, I mentioned that I used to own a 2000 Celica GT-S. Even though it's a nice car, I always got the impression that it was more like an afterthought.

Toyota: "hey, we can't forget the kiddies. Let's slap together a speedy econobox as a placeholder until we decide if we want to go back to making real sports cars like a mid-engine, turbo MR2 and Supra again."

And the Spec V isn't a slapped together "speedy econobox"? At least the tC is getting lots of good reviews...

Thanks for completely missing the point of my post, Sparky.

Sports cars are cool again. Mazda resurrected the rotary performance car with the RX-8. Nissan brought back the Z. Subaru and Mitsubishi finally brought their high-end rally cars stateside. Honda has the S2000, RSX Type-S and NSX.

Toyota has... the Celica and a watered down MR2. Where is their sports car? (and I know there's a Supra concept. But the fact is that it's not in production yet)

Toyota's image is made even worse by the fact that they used to be a cool performance car company. The Mk II MR2 Turbo and the Supra TT are two of my favorite cars of all time. Scion is Toyota's way of trying to claw back into the youth performance market, but honestly it's not enough. They need the Supra back in a BIG WAY not because young people can't afford one, but because it improves their image.

BTW, I'd take my Spec V over the $22,000 Celica GT-S that I bought back in 2000 any day; it's a better car for me all around. Sure, the Spec is just an econobox with performance parts slapped on, but it works for my budget. But if I had $35,000 to blow on a car, I'd seriously consider the 350z. What does Toyota have to offer me for a sports car in that range?

Alright sparky, point taken. Toyota still makes performance cars in Japan though. More importantly, Toyota has the resources to make any car they want to vs. Mazda who has to get approved by Ford first. Toyota will make a true sports car for the US sometime in the next couple of years. In the meantime, the tC looks like a much better all around car than a Celica - and it costs less too.

I sure hope the suits at Toyota Japan give the green light for the new Supra for the U.S., Sparky. Even a redesigned, coupe MR2 would do the trick temporarily.

The sports car market is back, Toyota! Contrary to popular belief, not all Americans want SUVs!

Mazda NEEDS an affordable sport coupe to compete with the rsx, stang, heck even a Civc or sunfire.....come on, make one already! The company that markets themselves as the sporty company does not have a sport coupe. All 4 door cars with the miata being the exception ( before anyone says it,and besides it's a roadster) and that thing is useless in my mind as it's too small for an everyday car.

Oh wait, they might come out with another rx-7. Great, another car I can't afford.

Both are nice cars for the money. the trd supercharger is a dealer installed accesory. Actually all the option on the scions are dealer installed. They all come shipped base and the dealer is supposed to add on the options that people want so they aren't limited to buying options they don't want or not buying options they do want. Both are about the same price. And each has their own advantages.

A mazda 6 mps 2 door convertable.....Who needs viaga? the 3hatch was aimed for the Shitty import and the matrix neeeds to be reloaded. Hell the 6i is a lil bit pricy but it runs civics for fun too....trust me on that one.

Kinda cookie cutter looking...

Looks sorta like a Toyota Paseo updated for 2005.
Then again it looks sorta like an Acura RSX.
Nothing really bad, but nothing too special or too different.

A nice addition to the market, and another option for the buyer.
Thats a good thing.

BTW, the TC is not a sports car, sports cars generally have only two seats.
See Corvette, Viper, NSX, Miata, S2000, Lotus Elise

I agree it is by far not a sports car, its a sport compact. And it will do very well IMO. What were the est. of the SuperCharged installed TC around 200whp. and under $20,000 yeah this car will be big in the sport compact dept.

Whatdya think? obviously these cars are in a slightly different bracket, but have similar engine sizes, horsepower, and quality interiors. Also, stock 17s, good looks, and sporty nature. The tC has the edge in cost, torque, and Toyota resale, but a 3 hatch can carry more stuff, has more desireable options (tpms, xenons, leather) and has more head room.

Is anyone else considering these two vehicles?

Scion=Toyota/lexus Mazda=ford need i say more :)

Should you say more? No. What you do say should be accurate, though.

The correlations are not the same.

Mazda does not = Ford.

Every Scion made is 100% Toyota.
Every Lexus made is 100% Toyota.

Every Mazda is not 100% Ford.

Apples and oranges.

Like I said, a Mazda is not a Ford (especially a Mazda 3). If you can't understand that, then please stop arguing.

Mazdas do not have the same depreciate rates as equivalent ford models. Also, in your hastily typed response, you left out Mercury and Lincoln. To make your irrationaly post factual, you should have said:
Scion = Toyota/Lexus
**********and************
Mazda = Ford / Mercury / Lincoln

Let it go, man.
Trolls will be trolls.

If he keeps it up, I'll close the thread. Antoine has already been notified.

Im not arguing but lets look at the facts

November 1979 Ford buys a 25% stake in Toyo Kogyo of Japan, later to become Mazda.
January 1988 Mazda begins building the Ford Probe at Mazda Motor Manufacturing Corporation in Flat Rock, Michigan.
June 1992 Mazda Motor Manufacturing Corporation is restructured as equal partnership with Ford, renamed AutoAlliance International Inc.
July 1, 1992 Ford acquires 50 percent of Mazda Motor Manufacturing and renames the company AutoAlliance International, under which the Probe is built.
April 1996 Ford takes effective control of Mazda.

December 2003: My Mazda 3 rolls off the assembly line in Hiroshima, Japan with 0% U.S./ Canadian parts content.

If you hate Mazda so much, why are you here? (braindead

Go away, troll. (notcool) (nobody)
