Hang gang:

Surfin' the web in the P.M. at work while on overtime I saw a pic of the Mazda 3 sedan at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Figured I'd post it as not too many people have probably seen it.

Mazda 3 Sedan

Looks different, but you can see how the front end is slightly different from the 6 and the RX-8. I like how Mazda is trying to pull the whole product line together with similar front ends.

IMO the car has great lines, except fot the weird C pillar. I wonder how much the large C pillar will obsure rearward vision.

I am torn.
I like the 3 sedan better then the normal protege sedan but I like the P5 better then the 3 hatch (dunno)

I think I'm going to wait until I see one in person to fully know if I like it or not.

I've seen cars in the past where pictures don't do it justice. And vice versa, it looked better in the picture than in real life.

Then there is the Pontiac Aztek, which looks ugly as hell no matter what.

Looks like the 3 has a big set of rotors. Should have some powerful braking like the 6, maybe better since it's so much lighter.

You've got a sharp eye, the Mazda3 does indeed have larger discs than the Mazda6 (albeit slightly):

Mazda6 (N. American-spec, discs common for both engines):
front: 282mm
rear: 279mm

Mazda3 (N. American-spec, 2.3l):
front: 300mm
rear: 280mm

Mazda3 (N. American-spec, 2.0l):
front: 278mm
rear: 265mm

Edit: Also, Mazda3 100km/h-0km/h is only 37m (which is amazing).

37m is amazing, but doesn't it seem a bit too short.

Yeah, your post made me go through the docs again to see if I was remembering the wrong thing or something (cause 37m is that amazing). But sure enough, I wasn't imagining, here's the source (Aug '03 Mazda3 hatch euro press release):

"A 10-inch (255 mm) single vacuum booster enhances brake effectiveness and response by ensuring a linear increase in deceleration as pedal travel increases. The result is one of the segment's shortest braking distances from 100 km/h of only 37 m."

A caveat though, this is for euro-spec 2.0l (which has the 300mm f and 280mm r discs). In N. America-spec, the larger discs are only available on the heavier 2.3l, so N. American cars won't quite have this braking performance (but it'll be close).

agreed

I didnt like either, but I just saw some shots of the sedan on mazdausa.com (old ones ibelieve) and i like it a lot, cant wait to see what the dolled up mazdaspeed version will look like, although i doubt it would be able ot carry the orange as well

I like the idea of matching up a product line through similar design touches. Too bad I'm not a big fan of the RX-8/Mazda 6 Front end. :( But I might just be biased because the RX-7 was so freakin' beautiful, and I think my speed looks awesome for a 4 banger econobox. Meh.

I'm drooling just thinking of what the MAzdaspeed version will be like. As it stands right now, I'm glad I got the speed. There's nothig about the 3 that makes me want it more, there's nothing "special" about it.

Now, a 225hp AWD Mazda 3.....hmmmm.

as long as it's not 25k
