ok so today at target i saw a mazda protege 5 and i thought it looked pretty cool.anyways i'm shopping around for a wagon.my budget would be about $5500 max.so far i seen 2002 for $6950(89,000 miles) and 2002 for $4,000 which has 135,000miles. on criagslist of course.anyways i got questions.

1.this suitable for 6'0 person?

2.i googled and the fuel economy website lists the mpg as 20 city and 28 freeway.is that accurate?

3.in the youtube videos and pictures i see when u open the back door theres a little flap that opens up.is that little flap removable?

4.can u fold down the front passenger seat and what is the length in feet from behind the drivers seat all the way to the backdoor?

depending on where your at, you can find a private seller around 5,000

1.yes (even my 260lb. 6ft brother can drive it without complaining)

2. thats pretty accurate but ir really depends on how heavy your foot is... i stop on it all the time and get 20mpg street only

3.yes

4.front seat doesnt fold flat, and idk

more than anything else, its a damn fun car to drive

I know I'm new and don't even own a P5 (yet), but I test drove one today in a mix of city and highway driving and I was very comfortable the entire time. I'm 6', 212 lbs, and even with the lower headliner due to the sunroof, I still had plenty of head room and never once felt claustrophobic.

Sorry I couldn't answer more questions.

this^

I am 6'4" (with long legs 36" inseam) and I have plenty of leg and head room in my P5.

20 city and 28 hwy? Wow. I haven't seen my city MPG be anything lower than 28 since I purchased my P5 in May 2010. I typically see 28-30 MPG in the city and about 32-35 on the highway. I drive like grandpa for the most part though :)

if you go with a manual transmission, the mileage will be better. the auto tranny's are gas hogs.

I asked my brother to lets check out the 2002 or 2003 protege.he said that they are poor quailty cause ford company bought them.he isnt a big fan of american made cars.

all protege's were built in japan. my 2001 sedan currently has 194,000+ miles on it, and has as reliable (if not more so) than the 99 civic we had for 180,000 miles. saying they are an unreliable car because ford had ownership is short sighted and narrow minded.

hank3 so u would say this car is totally a gas saver huh?

Absolutely! All on 89 octane gas :)

As far as the Ford bit, yes Ford had part ownership back when these were made, and there's some parts bin sharing...but like njremka said, these were built in Japan and are very reliable, economical, and easy cars to maintain. Plus, due to it being a hatchback/wagon, they very practical and are fun to drive to boot!

Check out the fuelly link in my sig. I have an 02 with AT and I know a guy on here who gets better mileage and is boosted and quite a few guys with MSM's get better mileage than what I do. The AT def. drags the numbers down but it is still a fun car to drive and very practical too. But everyone else has already said that.

There are plenty of protgs with 200+k miles depends on how well it was taken car of. There is more than enough room in it and as for mileage most people average more than 28 mpg

I had excellent luck with my 02 P5, it had a moonroof and im 6'3" and I fit perfectly fine it was a comfortable car. I consider them extremely reliable and fun to drive the only thing I did to the P5 in 8 years was replace the cracked plastic intake tube and put new brakes, batteries and tires on it.

I bought one for each of my 2 kids and loved them so much I bought one for myself. I bought all with over 100k miles. 2 have 150k miles now and one has 120K. The only repairs I have had in the past 3 years is a battery and a radiator hose. If I could get a fourth for my wife I would, but I think the neighbors would think I was weird. (stoned).
