Maryland Auto Show

Just went, VERY disapointing. No EVO VIII, No 2003.5 MSP. They did have a spicy orange 2003. Made me want to cry seeing all the young kids get in and "dry shift" that car. If you are waiting for a Spicy Orange in Baltimore you may want to ask if it was at the show. I would be a little concerned with all thise people getting into it. There was vomit in a Ford. Nasty. Other than that the show keeps getting worse every year.

Oh Yeah, I would rate the MSP protege at the show as one of the top three attractions outside of the Hummer and Porsche's.

Do you think that does damage? I've never heard anything to that effect, unless you mean just by the sheer volume of people doing it it could put some wear and tear on it. I don't think it's like dry firing a firearm.

Im goin to see if i can get it from what ever dealership is gettin it unless its already taken... A couple grand off is worth a new clutch to me.

"dry" shifting isn't a problem.. it's not like dry turning your wheels or something.. when the engine isn't on, the gears are all in sync b/c none of them are rotating, so what's the problem again?

why would you be concerned? they arent gonna sell a show car to the public, and if they do, i would think it would be heavily discounted.

I too was at the Maryland Auto Show. I've never heard anything about "dry shifting" damaging a transmission. You see them do it on almost all of the TV shows that review cars. But there are the young kids that just slam the shifter through the gears repeatedly.

Plus, it's a car show....they put the cars there so people can play with them and get a feel for how all the controls work. It's just like going into Best Buy and playing with all of their electronics.

Even dry firing most modern firearms is safe. The firing pins are much stronger most newer weapons. Plus, you can always use a snap cap if you are worried.

Looking forward to it!
L.E. - I doubt we'll see the Evo8 at the Toronto autoshow, since, as far as I know, Mitsubishi has no plans to sell it in Canada.

you're right Grimace....
I guess then, we could see the WRX STi then.....
Any idea how much they are going for?

Rumour has it they will be $3-4K more than the Evo8. The Evo8 is ~$29k according to the Road & Track article (full road test in the latest issue), so figure low-mid 30's probably. All figures are U.S. dollar.
That is, unless Subaru wanted to decimate the Evo8 in the U.S. market and priced it on par with the Evo...
