MAM SS or HiBoost

hey juan how much is the boost controller upgrade and what is the level of difficulty to install would you say? i'm also doing the closed loop hookup once i get the wiring from you and have some questions on that when you get a chance to answer them.

Juan and Beau, what is the level of installation difficulty for these kits?

Hello Hello,

I can do it in 6 hours, however most people take 1 day and 1/2 to do the install.

You need to remove the front bumper, manifold, Downpipe, air filter box, AC fan and then replace all the new parts.

The oil pan also has to be removed, drill a big hole to install the oil drain fitting.

The Oil sender has to be removed to install the brass "T" and oil line.

Besides this you need to do some electrical connections to install the Haltech ECU.

Hiboost, Juan, what does the upgrade for the msp consist of? And could you give a price and/or pics? Thanx.

The upgrade will be in stages. For example the stage 1 will be just the manifold, turbo, downpipe and intake system. The stage 2, the above plus a Haltech System with larger injectors, Stage 3 the above plus Internals.

Or we have the complete upgrade for 300 WHP which is a complete kit with all components for $5,600.00
Here is a picture of the complete kit for 300 WHP

Juan, What is the recommended psi setting for this kit? Beau, What is it with your thumper kit?

i just wanted to pipe in and mention, that despite the obvious problems i have with my current fuel management setup (not the kit or beau's fault), the kit is a breeze to install. i jacked a couple things up initially because i was rushed to complete the job. but if i can do it, so can you. granted i had a couple lessons learned from my first turbo install, but if y ou need help, i or anyone else can help you. not to mention beau is normally available anytime by phone - especially when he knows someone is installing one of his kits.

Thanks for the info, it helps my decision

What exactly are you fishing for? The efficiency of the turbos perhaps?
Juan's kit uses the IHI VF-22 and Beau uses the Garrett GT28 and GT30 series of turbos (GT28r, GT2871, GT28RS, GT3071, GT3037). You really should be asking yourself what kind of power YOU want to make and then you can tailor your choices.

i can list a shitload of tips too, if you need me to from both turbo installs, and you can have my cell number. other people that have seen or installed MAM kits include of course beau himself, ryanjayg, linuxracr, pdhaudio, etc etc.

its great because on beau's kit the intercooler piping doesnt require any cutting except a small tiny piece of black plastic as opposed to hacking away at sheet metal like on my spool kit, which will eventually rust. you can see in this pic where it is rusted and s*** from my spool kit cutting job. this pic is of the mam kit and you can see on the left the small piece of plastic you must cut, which is no big deal. it can be done with a box knife, whereas with the spool kit i had to get a cutter and spend a ton of time bending it back, etc (second pic)

I was wondering what is the safe and max. boost setting that they recommend.

The output of our kit is 330 WHP, however you need forged internals to run these numbers.

The $5,600.00 kit comes with everything to get to the 300WHP level.

This is a 100% streetable kit with no lag and still capable of hitting 300 HP levels.

With this setup, you can run as much as 18 psi on 91 octane or 22 on 93 octane fuel with the 8.5 to 1 compression pistons. With race fuel 24 psi is the limit of the turbo.

I know that the hiboost kit has hit numbers in the 330 range, does anyone know the #'s that the mam ss kit is capable of? I know that the mam thumper is capable of 500-600, but I was wondering what the capabilities of the ss are, especially since fastlanes projected 400 whp msp consists of the same upgraded turbo (the same as in the ss), but with a stock ported mani? And also could someone list the max boost for the ss kit on 93 octane. Thanks

with MAM SS kit can do 350+ with the right turbo and supporting mods, and even more if you get a different turbo.

personally, I have the SS kit, and i'm having an engine built now, when i get it, i will be running 275-300whp, then more as i mod more.

the max boost on an ss with 93 octane? I could pull 400whp on 93 octane, i would just have to pull a LOT of timing, and i do have lower compression pistons too.

This thread makes me want a turbo kit SOOOOOO bad.

Some questions:

What is the difference between having the Haltech that the Hiboost comes with and the other fuel management that the MAM SS comes with? Also, both kits require tapping of the oil pan, correct?

I have a stock P5, 5spd. What would I need in addition to either of these kits? Clutch, exhaust? anything else?
