Making Purchase! Need Help!!!

Alright guys I'm a 20 year old college student looking to purchase a 2010 RX-8 R3 in Aurora color.

I've been doing research for nearly 2 months now, called at least 6~ dealerships in 2 different cities and about ready to make a purchase in December.

The price quote i was able to land was $6500 off MSRP, but i wanted to know the average price you guys are paying for a Sports MT & R3 Trim. I've checked out KBB and a good price is 29k and a great price is anything lower than that. Average price is 29k~ with invoice @ 30k in my area.

Also would this type of car be right for me? There is a lot of city driving involved... and i heard the fuel economy isn't so great. Average 15 mpg with at least 80% daily driving done in cities and the apex seals need to be lubricated via oil which is why oil consumption is through the roof.

Thanks a lot guys :). Hope to be a part of the family soon.

Look up pricing on Truecar.com. Keep in mind that participating dealers will quote pricing on models they don't have in stock on this site, but you may want to call to see if a dealer that has a quote you like will be able to do a dealer trade and honor the price - although this is unlikely.

At the beginning of each month, watch Mazda's factory to dealer incentive for 2010 RX-8 on a site like edmunds. Currently it's $3500 and this will reflect in the truecar quote. I just recently bought my Sport model for 10K off MSRP so I'd say shoot for at least 9K off. Hope this helps.

You have a lot to read before you purchase this car. I suggest you look over this site, and the other RX8 communities. The R3 models are heavier than the older models, and are not as nimble on the track. I know I have only started posting in this community but I have thousands of rotary posts in other communities. Look for a series 1 vehicle. The series 2 (09+) vehicles don't have near as many upgrades or mods, there aren't a lot of access ports for tuning them, and the aftermarket community doesn't have many parts for them.

Fuelly.com will tell you the average fuel mileage of any vehicle you want. I am getting 16mpg average since I started recording a year ago. That includes a couple of 12mpg track runs, and a couple 22mpg highway runs.

Oil consumption is not as high as you think. I run about a half a quart low every 3 tanks of fuel. I run a 50% increase in oil due to a custom tune. My engine is on original plugs, coils, and wires, at 80K miles. My compression still hasn't failed, but everyones car is different. You can add a SOHN oil adapter and run an oil tank in the car with two stroke oil to improve performance. Also you can premix with Idimatsu rotary engine oil. Most of us run 1oz to 1gallon of fuel in the fuel tank.

I suggest you go over the many rotary forums very carefully before you make this purchase. The car is very high maintenance but extremely fun to drive and own.
