im thinking of making some custom eyelids for my p5 but im not sure where to begin...it will be just a simple eyelid with a slightly different shape than the ones that dg, accolade, etc make...how difficult is it to do this?

I also was thinkin of doin this with just vinyl cuts. not to sure if that would work.

EDIT: I just found this thread. may be of some use.

i have seen it done before with just vinyl. Doesnt look as good as a true eyelid but its a close substitute!

i was thinking that since i had a whole lot of fiberglass mat and liquid left over from my sub box project, y dont i let it go to a good use?...cheaper, more custom, and something better for me to do than just sit and do nothing else...the only trick that i might have problems with is getting the fiberglass to form to the shape of the headlight...but i dunno about vinyl...something tells me that either the light will shine through or that it wont match the paint exactly...

i made vinyl ones for my car a while ago. they looked really good and they only cost me 3bucks for a 2foot sheet of vinyl. but at night light shined thru them and it looked like ass, so i made some out of fiberglass and bondo. they turned out really well and ended up costing me about 40bucks and a few hours worth of work. id say the hardest part was trimming them, but just cuz my bad 7.2volt dremel kept dying on me, so i had to recharge it about 4 times.

not sure if i will keep these on, i just did this 5 mins ago LOL, had some extra vinyl from my side graphic laying around

what you guys think? i think it looks ok from far away but up close its horrible, especially if the hood is open

does anyone have the link to the picture of the black protege5 with the hood that overlaps the headlight?

Would like to see how you are doing the fiberglass eyelids as well as the finished product!! Keep us informed!

I have lots of access to vinyl, graphics class, all I do is make stickers. I thought about doing this, but at night they would look like s***. I could actually have them cut by a machine though so at day they would look pretty good. If anyone wants any let me know and I would be willing to make some for a few dollars or something like that.

well, thats where my problem comes in...im not exactly sure on how im going to mold the eyelids into the shape of the headlights so that it actually covers the edges...either i take out the headlights and fiberglass to their shapes or i fiberglass it while its on the car itself...the latter really does sound like a bad idea just waiting to happen with all that fiberglass liquid...

I have vinyl eyelids on my car. I have no complaints with them. My car is black mica and the eyelids are red. At night they look good as well. I just went to a graphics shop and bought the best vinyl they had, its a little heavy then standard vinyl. I have got nothin but compliments at shows for them.

These are Accolade Eye brows, I think they look the best that are out there.

I can't tell the difference between fiberglass or vinyl unless I really go close to inspect it. My friend made his own out of vinyl and I don't think light shines thru it.

i think its a good idea, i always feel better if i made something for my car as opposed to buying it......that is if i knew how to make anything.

good luck with it

i bought the gts headlight covers and just cut them how i wanted them, tested fitted, then took them and had them painted. i think they turned out good.

i would recommend taking the headlights off the car. i did mine with them still in, and while it wasnt too hard, alot of things wouldve been alot easier with them out. but for mine, i just taped off the whole front end and laid fiberglass mat everywhere that i wanted the eyelid to cover. the sides were kinda difficult to get to stick right, but not too bad. after i laid the fg up, i just let it dry for about 3 hours, then went and pulled them off carefully, held them up to my headlights and traced where i wanted the eyelid to cover. after that, it was just a lot of trimming, bondo, and sanding.

oh, and sorry, no pics, but they look just like the accolade brows that raddbug posted about 5 posts up, only white.

i got my design for it down yesterday...sorta like the accolades too, but with a thinner point that goes down by the signal light of the p5 and a little curve that goes up toward the outside of the car...i will remove the headlights out of the car, but i just need to find the time to do so...but i will post some process pics for some fun...

update...i have made one eyelid and am currently working on the other...ill have pics of the process soon and the final product...btw, does anyone know how to remove small specks of fiberglass off of a headlight?...for some odd reason, my headlight has alot of these on its surface...
