MAF relocation?

hey guys i was just wondering if it was possible to relocate the maf to right before the turbo intake? just to shorten it by that much. or is that just a stupid idiodic dumb dumb idea?

I suppose its possible, people have them all over the place in aftermarket turbo kits, even on teh preasurized side of things. though I might think the swirling air right before the turbo might cause some problems for the delicate vane in the MAF sensor.

and one thing is for certain, you dont want to have to buy a new one, they are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Oh my, a good looking lady talking about cars! Im in love, and lost for words (naughty)

lol i love cars guys, i love everything about them! so youre saying it is possible to place the maf sensor at, lets say, right before the throttle body? or is the piping diameter different?

you could, but IMO bad idea to put the maf where all the pressure is(never know how long it will last), id keep it on the turbo's intake pipe...

If you put it on the pressure side you might damage it. There are a few people running it like that on this board, but our MAF is not a blow-thru and it was not designed to be run like that. It might be fine at stock boost, but nobody can really say for how long.

would the maf melt? being that its plastic (i think) and against the hot turbo?

Not sure if it would actually melt it, but heat is one of the reasons I wouldn't put it after the turbo.

i don't think it would melt, but as said before, our maf wasn't designed to work in that situation and they aren't the easiest parts to come by, and a failing MAF can **** up a/fs and just maybe blow your engine! mwhahaha

or you can ditch it and buy the AEM EMS with MAP sensor ;)

but in all seriousness its very spendy :D

haha, good choice.... :p

you might consider a CAI or a SRI that are currently available for the MSP, they move the MAF sensor a little, and give a mean sound to your car. (thumb)

The only benefits I could see from moving it would be for the people that are running an open vent BOV and are having stalling issues. Why exactly were you thinking about moving it?

I think the safest option would be to use the Perrin intake. It's the shortest intake out there and it has been well tested... at least they did R&D on it.
Besides, you want some room to have the BPV to recirculate air into the turbo, unless ur using a BOV
BVP = bypass valve, it recirculates ait into the intake after the MAF
BOV = blows air directly to atmosphere

well i just thought about moving it because i was gonna see if i could do a bov open vented without the dual setup without it stalling..or am i just crazy?
