Aside from removing the transmission, how hard is it to actually replace a LSD yourself?
I know you have to open the trans, but when you do that is there anything in particular that needs to be done. Or is it a job the average person can do? I don't want to pay a shop to do work that I can do.. But I'm a little reluctant because I've never opened a transmission up before.

It definitely helps to have someone experienced assist you. It is possible to do it just requires an impact gun to remove the 5th and reverse gears and you can pull the diff without removing the entire gearset. Basically pull the trans, remove the end case and gears inside, then remove the little ball and spring and split the case. Then you can pull the old diff, press new bearings on the new diff and drop it in and put it back together.
