LSD Failure = new found love **no 56k**

I haven't done my homework on this one as I am new to fwd but I assume its the same as fwd. New (stronger aftermarket) differentials usually come with different gears (since the gears are inside the diff). I'm guessing that the new LSD she got came with gears (lower than stock) already in it. I would assume that she left the pinion stock though.

So, if the LSD came from a RX7, and assuming Tripoint left the ring/pinion gear in the LSD, and knowing our stock final drive is 4.105:1, I'm left to assume they installed the LSD with the RX-7 pinion gear in it which may have a lower ratio.

I'm so confused.

The rx-7 diff the tripoint people use is from a gsl-se (I'm pretty sure, maybe just a gsl) and it's flipped around and put in all weird, but it works. It's not just bolted in though. This was supposed to be kept on the downlow but since amy mentioned it I guess it's fair game to talk about. I'm guessing they'd want to get a slightly higher top speed on the road courses, which is why they'd go for the different final drive.

yea, also to change ur gear ratio the wheel/tire diameter would have to be changed drastically. other ways are the actual gears and the final drive ring gear.

her final drive ring gear shouldnt have changed. to install the quaife it bolts in place of the old differential unless it came with a new ring gear final drive attached.

wow this took like 20 mins to load on my moms dial-up.... i am not sure if it changed the ratio...the LSD is the final drive on our cars as I talked to the service guys about it... All I know is that my RPM's are lower than they were stock. acceleration is better. and the car pulls harder .thats all i have to say about it ...it isn't an rx-7 LSD..it is a Quaife...

nice amy, cant wait till im back in cincinnati for thanksgiving and chirstmas break so we can play with the coolest msp's in the tristate ;)

well im back from my trip...2200 miles on the new setup and it still feels pretty good ..

how is the drivability with the stage III clutch? did you get the stage III for the mazdaspeed or the base protege? my understanding is that both will work, but i'm assuming you went with the msp stage III.

we all would like to know the set back of that set up. over all nice set up , cost would be appreciated as i am upgrading as well.
