LSD Failure = new found love **no 56k**

I kept it stock b.c it already drops rpms low enough between shifts and i didnt' want to risk giving up the little driability that i have left lol ..this is my daily driver and i do get in traffic sometimes...i figured if i really want it i can get it later but for now i dont really want it ...

its because with the motor mounts you arn't losing power to twist the engine before the power gets to the wheels...the clutch helps grab better helping reaction time and sloppyness....the limited slip gets rid of wheel spin almost totally, and you dont waste power with torque steer...it feels more stable and solid and it doesn't make more power but it puts it down to the ground a lot easier and faster...its not massive but it is enough to notice, and im not the only one who noticed it ...my friend drove it and he about crapped his pants when i told him it was stock boost.

oh yeah i also have a different final drive gear ratio. not sure by how much but it would also play a part in it.

Makes sense to me. I was just wondering. Your drive ratio could also play a HUGE factor. I'm wondering how the top speed would be effected as well. Obviosuly limited at 137, but maybe it takes longer to get there, or maybe faster to get there? You wouldnt want to do a little high speed run for us would ya??? (evil)

Do you know the new final drive ratio? Cruising at 3,600 rpms is not something I enjoy, everytime i get to about 75 on the on ramp I start to push the clutch in and shift to my imaginary 6th gear.

yeah, I love hitting 6th. I think not having one is the only thing that I dont like about the car, I mean come on, even the svt fuckus gets one, mazda should have made it as an option to help keep the costs down on the base price of the msp.

thank god mazda has that go into neutral then reverse bit going on... cant tell u how many times i've hit that wall... first im like too far over for a 3rd to 4th shift then i realize what im doing as it starts to get past the middle... lucky theres a block there...

when I'm at 80mph in 5th gear I'm just barely at 3500rpm :) I will do some testing later on today and get some other MPH/RPM numbers for you guys

wouldnt the gear ratio change make the car slower in 0-60s and 1/4 miles ?
that is something i was thinking about ...i made a list of mph/rpm numbers and compaired to what was said above about 75mph being 3600 rpm and what mine is, I would be at a high mph at a lower rpm therefore I would think it would be faster in the quarter. to me it seems as if you are at a higher speed at a lower rpm you wouldn't have to shift as much and as often giving you better use of the powerband...but its early and im still tired and dialup is driving me nuts lol so i could be wrong .

here are the numbers. if someone would post stock numbers that would be awesome

mph/ rpm in 5th gear only

60=2700
65=3000
70=3100
75=3300
80=3600
90=4000
100=4500

LOL Me to :) but I think at 70 I am around 3250RPM?

Actually, that looks damn close to my stock numbers...but I'll double-check.

Unless I'm missing something, gear ratios don't just happen to change due to adding a new clutch and LSD. Did you order new gears?

yeah thats what i thought .... u have to take apart the gearbox and change the gears right ??

I stand corrected, on the interestate today I was going 80mph and that was 3550-3600.

I'm 90% that the final gear ratio is in the differential. (Like rear wheel drive cars)

So, if you want a lower gear ratio, get the better LSD.
If you want higher, get the gears?

I wasn't aware at all that the LSD came in to play gear ratio-wise..

Actually, from google and from JDMSam, the only way it would change is if you switch your ring/pinion gear or actual gears. So, again, I'm wondering how this would happen
