low idle and weird shifts

Alright, here's the deal. I started my car this morning and as soon as it started up it died. So I started it back up and the rpm level sits at around 500 in park, sounds like it is in gear almost(really low idle). Anyways, the check engine light is on so I reset the ecu, nothing changed. So I took it out for a drive and in a hard acceleration the car doesn't know what to do in 1st gear, it hovers around 5-6000 rpms and jerks around until it drops it into second and then takes off. Also, when I am cruising a around 70 and stomp on it it will creep really slowly up and the rpms stay around 5000 with no increase to the redline. Once, the car has been running for a while it won't die on me no matter what, but as soon as I turn it off and start it again it sometimes dies. I really need some help because it seems like it could be something really easy but I can't figure it out.:wtf:

By the way, wonderful site you guys. Wonderful help and teamwork in solving problems.

Sounds like more of an electronic problem rather than mechanical problem. I second the taking it into the dealer idea.

all that has been done to the car is an upgraded sound system and an exhaust. I am going to try and disconnect the ecu's fuse and see if that helps anything. Thanks for the advice I had a feeling it was going to need to be looked at but I wanted to cover all my basis first.

yeah go have it checked and fixed if need be under warranty. also try disconnecting your system and check everything if possible to make sure its like it was stock.
