Loud, Kinda ticking noise coming from intake manifold....

Alright so I think i know what this is already. The dreaded VTCS Screws, but just want to post some questions and see what yall think. Alright so i changed out my sparkplugs less than a thousand miles ago. After the replacement, the motor ran Great! Actually it ran better than it ever has before. Shortly after i would say about 800 miles later I am now getting a loud Ticking/machine gun like sound coming from the intake manifold. It is loud enough that I notice it with my windows down. However the car still runs great. I have noticed a really weird decel problem though. Sometimes, not all the time, when i am doing like 75mph on the freeway, I will let off the gas and the car decels very quickly....Anyways any answers or thoughts would be great. Thanks for your time!

VICS screws, VTCS just needs to be removed & I wouldn't be driving it much until you deal with it or you won't be driving it at all when screws get sucked in the motor while you're doing 75. The noise is probably the VICS butterflies flapping around on the loose screws. Eventually the screws will come out & or the butterfly will wallow out the screw hole & come off. Nothing about this is good for your motor. Check it out soon is my advice. There's a how-to in here for VTCS removal that can also serve as access to VICS tightening, if it's not too late. Just red loctite the s*** out of the screws on the VICS. OR...if your car is 2003 & the right VIN range then there is a recall for it & you get a new intake free. Good luck.

i had that problem with speed reducing very quickly when i let off the gas, i didnt get any reduced performance etc. when i changed my intake manifold it went away. :)

Suggestion! Buy one of the spare intake manifolds in the FS section and remove the VTCS/port it and retorque/loctitew the VICS screws. This makes the remove/replace much faster (one afternoon) and then sell the stock intake...

Nice bump in performance too! AND because the intake is out - consider swpaping the rear engine mount as well! This is the easiest it will be...

^^^yeah, that too. Forgot that part. It'll be real easy swap & less down time to do it ahead of time on the spare & just swap out the top half of the IM (if not doing the motor mount at same time). That way the only gasket you need will be the IM since the TB is connected to the lower half. By the sounds of it tho, he needs to check this real soon & or drive something else until it has been checked. Depending on your free time it could take a while to finish p&p & prep the spare. The hassle & imposition will be worth it.

Thanks for all your help guys. I posted a new thread about a J-spec intake manifold. Anyone know if this is a bolt up or would i need other parts to make this one happen.
