o nice one you got me good. wtf you can get hit in your car, you can get hit on a bike whatever, sure maybe your chances are a bit greater on a bike but you only live once and i try to make mine as memorible and satisfying as possible, riding on a bike is like no other natural high......

so take your fears and your statistics and mind ya bidness

Haven't been hit yet have you... Only two types of motorcycle riders out there... those that have gone down and those that will go down.

Been there done that personally. I'm well aware of what it is like to ride a bike... and frankly hands down driving a fully tuned car on track far exceeds the high of riding a bike any day... remember.. one **** up on the bike by your or anyone around you and that can be it... odds of that in the car are a whole hell of a lot lower. Also keep in mind some day there are going to be kids, girlfriends, wives, family etc that will think a whole lot differently...

The biggest thing for me is that riding a bike you have to put your trust in other drivers (66% of motorcycle accidents are caused by other vehicles). And frankly we all know the average quality of the cell phone yapping fast food eating idiot on the road these days... I turned around and pulled the money I was putting into bikes, and the money from my accident and put it into the car and never regret a moment of it. One of the best choices and changes in my life I've ever done!

EDIT: And doing a quick check... 26-38 times more likely to die per mile driven isn't "just a bit greater"

no i cant say i have been hit and yes i know its a matter of time, just like laying a bike down its a matter of time.

and yes it will happen and more than likely be the other drivers fault, but and well prolly never see eye on this but missing out on somthing due to fear is going to fall into a regret category. location wise im at one of the best spots i think i could be at, beaches are 10 min away nice long drives to 4 other states.

and yea the wife and kids ive already got all that and wife loves it, and kids ride everynow and then in a parking lot or somthing but yea not old enough to take them on the road

If everyone saw it the way I did, no one would ride, so I certainly don't expect that! I still think of getting a bike here and there because there is just something about it... but the simple fact of why I don't ever get one is having been creamed (stopped in the middle of the road, feet down, signal on, brakes on, lit street... plowed through me at a good 35 mph... cracked the crankcase on the bike too actually) it comes down to the fact that whiel I really enjoyed riding, it simply is not worth getting run over again. It's not a matter of if but simply when. If you think it's worth getting run over and dealing with the injuries... then ride away... but don't kid yourself that it won't happen to you or the like. My brothers lost about 4 or 5 bikes between the two of them and they still kept riding... was worth it to them.. not worth it to me :)

yea i guess it just comes down to personal preference and such. and my biggest fear on the bike is i will get rammed from behind beind at a stop light or somthing. and it sux cuz on the bike you cant really use the mirrors unless you are actually u know leaning/riding. alot of times at stop lights ill put it in nuetral and sit up, you got any tips on keeping a good eye behind all the time or just one of the battles of riding?

My bike was relatively upright, so the mirrors were positioned fine at stoplights etc... frankly not seeing it coming is a lot better... not much you can do in time anyway best to be limp when you get hit. Probably saved me a lot of agony... my kidneys, left leg, and helmet took a sever beating, but otherwise I didn't break anything so I got lucky that way... Have the left side of my face still too because of the helmet... ground that baby down and I can still remember watching pavement go past the facemask (body slid for somewhere between 50 and 100 feet). Getting those reflective strips for the bottom edge of your helmet or your jacket collar help a lot... past that not a lot you can do to be visible... again I'd say not seeing it coming is safer probably.... if you try to avoid it by going into the intersection you may get it worse or not be able to accelerate in time to not get run over.

dude i am in the same boat as you. i got my bike permit and my buddy as been letting me borrow is bike for the past week (01 cbr600f4i) and im buying one soon lol. its an incredible experience and ever since then just been looking "down" on the p5

yeah but its a lot harder (if not impossible) to puff on a bike! the P5 is great cover for....hold on...."coughs"....shady goings on...hehe (stoned)

hahah yea tru i was kinda going to use the bike as inspiration to stop smoking cigs as well due to the fact that yea you cant smoke and ride, ill take care of the other stuff though :)

so can u explain to me why being limp would be better?

actually causes a lot less damage when you get hit... similar to why drunk drivers usually suffer less injury... without the muscles being tight they flex more and joints give a lot more and thuse less soft tissue gets damaged and bones don't break as often. That's really it... keep in mind a lot of muscles are strong enough to break bones when stressed... you can actually break your own back with a muscle spasm... which obviously isn't good!

yea i suppose that makes sense just when i think about it getting rammed from behind by a car or truck and me being on a bike being limp seems like my body would just like elastic snap it 2 or somthing lol, but i do see what your saying, still doesnt make me feel better :(

Best thing to do is have a bucket on the head and a good jacket... my kidney protectors did a great job... I took a straight shot to the right kidney on my accident... all sorts of brusing... but didn't piss a bit of blood which was GREAT news at the time.

yea always a helmet, although being in florida dont know how much ill wear a jacket honestly with as hot as it is and such. and i know its dumb but plain truth, but always gloves, pants, shoes, and helmet

yeah.. in the city a jacket gets hot as hell... our summers get up to 100 degrees from time to time.. so I know that pain. But sweated my ass off anyway... once you get to 40 mph you are good :)

Im fond of the BFG KDW's that I have on my POS... about the only thing I do like about the car at this moment... :)

When you have to push a car with only 60k out of traffic cause it died at a stop light, then have the b**** towed 1/4 mile up the road, you kinda lose respect... (bang)

My car stalled on queens blvd when i was trying to turn left on intersection, i had to push and turn my wheel so i could make the turn, and to top that off some stupid **** cut me off cuz she couldn't wait for me to get my car to curb. I've had my car towed 3 times in little over a year, but i sitll love her

You know your car sucks when you have to make excuses for it....that's when i knew it was time for the P5 to go.

yea turboing a car is fun, unless you dont have unlimited funds and time to sink into a car that wasnt meant to be turbod anyhow.
