I started up my car yesterday and the tach jumped to 5k and the speedo jumped to 20mph (E-brake up and in neutral) then I lost all power. no lights. no response to the key in the ignition. nothing.

Then after a couple mins everything turned back on. it was strange.

This morning in the drive through for some coffee my car stalled out (Again in neutral) and as I turned the key I heard the starter click twice then the car turned on sluggish.

Any idea what could be the cause? It is a 2012 Mazda 2 Sport manual with 12k miles. I've owned it for a little over a year and it is all stock.

South Florida mazda2 , woooo . That seems really odd . If you haven't done so , check the battery terminal connection possible it worked its self loose . Then check actual battery if you don't monitor your voltage already . Sounds like you may be in for a trip to the dealer .

I'm going to take it to the dealer this weekend. it hasn't acted up since the other day. I am moving to gainsville in may for college so I want to be sure that it is back in perfect condition.

Besides the front tires being bald.. cause me+fwd+stick = oops.

It might be worth checking the negative earth bonding point to the body, took mine off & sanded the location
back down to bare metal as the usual lug sits on paint with the location bolt through it... wipe over with
some vaseline (or grease) to stop it corroding....

Shaun....

I agree with above, before taking it in make sure that both your battery terminals are tight and free off corrosion. Then check the grounding point(follow the negative battery wire) and make sure that's tight as well.
