I am looking into buying my buddys mx-6 with blown head gasket, its the 2.2 turbo 5 speed.

the clutch pedal when pressed stays on the floor, and of course it has the blown head gasket and has been sitting for two years...

i am familiar with mazdas (own a msp) but i want this as a project.

Is this car worth the effort, and how hard is it to find parts? like a used motor?

Amy help would be amazing, thank you

They are getting a bit more scarce now days but you can still find parts. Weather it is worth it or not depends on the shape of the car and how much you are getting it for.

Buy it cheap. The 2.2 12 valve turbo is fairly obsolete by modern engine standards, but I've seen them modded into pretty entertaining cars. The stock intercooler can handle some more boost, the stock turbo can stand upgrading (bit small IIRC), and the engine is reasonably tough. It's also quite a bit lighter than most modern cars, so every horsepower will motivate it more than you may imagine if you apply that power level to a modern/heavier car.

if you can get for for cheap , go for it, they are much more easier to make power than your msp and the motor is quiet strong. with good tune , stock motor will make over 400whp . and still be reliable.

I havent logged into the forums in 3-4 years i think, but when i sold my mp3, i bought 2 extra f2 powered car, 90 probegt and 90 mx6lx. both now makes over 350whp. The motor was shared between 626,probe and mx6. gt and non gt. only different between the motor is the pistons. other than thats, you can get the motor for pretty reasonable price.

here is my recent dyno on my daily driver 89pgt..completely stock motor, turbo and fuel upgrade
