Looking for some speaker ideas

Wondering what some of you have done to replace the factory speakers. I see that the front speaker is 5"x7"/6"x8" and the rear is 6". I don't think it is a good idea to mix speaker sizes like that (but I could be wrong). I was wondering what other people have done to replace the factory speakers. I would really like to get all 6 1/2" but it doesn't look like they fit without modifications. I could do both doors with 5 1/4" components, but was hoping for 6 1/2". I'm not to interested in bass. A little is fine, but nothing to much. Maybe a 6 1/2" or 8" bazooka. Still up in the air on that one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

blaupunkt speakers are nice. not too expensive, with real good sound
polk components will give you GREAT sound along with an extra set of tweeters

I got Kenwood Excelons, 6x8 in the front and 6 1/2 in the back. They're lightweight, have great clarity and bump pretty good for only 22w going to them.

I replaced the stock speakers with Memphis Power Reference speakers in the same stock sizes. They sound really clear & good. We are working on a subwoofer enclosure in my spare tire well for my Memphis Power Referece 10" sub to round out the bass. My brother has pretty much the same set up in his '07 Mazda3 and it sounds really great. He used to install custom car audio & video, so he has helped me get the most for my money.

Mixing different sized speakers has no affect on the sound. But I will add that you don't need rear speakers if you have a good set of front speakers. Add some decent 6x8" or 6.5" component speakers for the front and a 2-ch amp to power them. Get it all hooked up and then decide whether you need more bass. You can also add a new head unit to the mix for cleaner sound to the amp and additional features such as mp3 playback.

i have infinity refrence 6X8's up front and infinity kappa 6X9's in the rear deck... alot of people dont have the same size speakers in front and rear... sure hell, i am putting some infinity kappa 6 1/2's in the rear doors next.

I put Rockford Fosgate component speakers in both doors. I removed the rear deck ones, though. The front if I remember correctly were 6x8 and the rear door ones were 5 1/4 but we did have to make a new bezel to fit them for the door openings are just a little big. I did however put the tweeters for the rear door set on the rear deck. If you'd like I could take pics, but just givin you my info.

If it's a 3rd gen. Protege the fronts are 6 1/2' and the deck in the back is 6x9'...I put in mb quart reference series components in the front (6 1/2) and back (6x9) but you'll need an external amp with those and the sound is great!!!

The 02 Pro LX has 5x7 in the front and 6x9 in the rear. I put MB Quarts in those spots and they sound great - you will need an amp to push them though.

that's strange...the 02 ES in the front are 6 1/2...wonder why they would change the size from the LX to the ES?

speaker sizes

Now I have verified three times with all different places online, Crutchfield, Best Buy, Sounddomain and local car shops to me and my 02 LX, has a fitment guide of 6x8 FRONT and 6x9 rear deck. You may be able to fit the 6 1/2 and 5 1/4 with an adapter, but the fitment/standard that is supposed to go in there are the 6x8 front and 6x9 rear. Now if I am wrong, please forgive me.

Now the ES does take a fitment of 5 1/4 or 6 1/2.

Ur probably right...I had a shop install them for me. I was thinking about putting some speakers in the rear doors but then I'd have to get another amp and I really don't want to go through the hassle (or wiring) of having 3 amps.

I've got 6x8 infinity reference speakers in my front doors with the 6x9 infinity reference speakeres in the rear deack with an 8 inch bazooka tube. I very satisfied with the way it sounds
