Looking for Performance Recommendations

Hi everyone -

I've been browsing this forum for a while and think it's pretty cool. I recently bought a Silver P5 (5sp, 6-disc CD, Sunroof, ABS etc etc) and love the car. I was driving an SUV - which killed me on gas not to mention the ride quality.

The one complaint I have (as I'm sure many others do) is about performance. In short - the car needs more ponies and torque.

Short of adding a turbo charger - can people recommend improvements that can be made? I've talked to people with 4cyl cars and some have suggested a cold air intake, another one suggested something called the "tornado" (I think).

I'm hoping people can post replies with what to add, the approximate cost, where to find the items and what type of performance gain can be expected.

uhmmm if u turbo, get 5pd, our auto tranny's cant handle the boost. i think some guys are pushing 230 whp with turbo... other than that, sorry, i have nothing much to say. u can get intake, exhaust, cams, flywheels, throttle bodies, intake manis, but keep in mind, our car isnt THAT popular, so whatever parts there are for our motor, its $$$. gl dude. also, auto sucks on mpg, 5spd is better if u want effeciency with gas peace - chris

There are a couple guys on here running turbo in the auto's. You just have to keep the boost down. Pirana has one and he is doing just fine.

There is tons of info out there of what is good and not. Run a search.

"typhoon" from K&N its like $500.

just look in the performance section and you'll find thread about almost everything that is possible.

there is one thread in particular that I remember that is titled with something along the lines of "First $500 to spend."

hang out in the performance section for awhile (1 week) and you'll see what you can do pretty quickly.
